Wow!

This must be International "Change Your Profile Photo to Pending" Day or something?

It seems a lot of folks profile photos have disappeared today, and more go blank as the day goes on!!

Has anyone else noticed this?

IT'S "LEFTIES" DAY!!!!!

We Lefties deserve our own day!
After all, think of all of Life's major obstacles there are to being left handed:

Scissors

Computer mouse

Door knobs

Screws and screwdrivers

School chairs

Spiral-bound notepads

Wathint'Abafazi Wathint'imbokodo!

That phrase (in its latest incarnation: "you strike a woman, you strike a rock") has come to represent women's courage and strength in South Africa.

Celebrate these qualities this day!

Though we may not know what lies ahead,
I know walking together, hand in hand,
supporting each other, balancing each other,
we'll make it!

Wherever these silver ribbons lead us!

Imbolc Blessings

Today, Imbolc, marks the mid-way point of winter for those in the Southern hemisphere, and summer for those in the Northern one.

Spring is but a short time away now; the Earth stirs and awakens, bringing with it hope and promise of new beginnings. The days lengthen, the sun warming our hearts with its radiance.

Fall approaches too, the crops grow heavy with the promise of bountiful harvests from our labors, providing feasts and festivals with family and friends.

Imbolc marks the meeting between Winter and Spring; between Summer and Fall.

It is the time of the feast of torches,
When every lamp blazes and shines
And all the Earth celebrates

This night, let a lamp from each room blaze in unison, to celebrate this day.

May we find peace, serenity and harmony in the delicate balance of Life's cycle.
Give thanks for the beauty and grace within it's mystery.

Sweet dreams, till sunbeams find you.
Sweet dreams, your worries behind you.
Night breeze whispers through the tree.
Dream a little dream of me.

Sweet dreams, bring me your touch.
Sweet dreams, the warmth I feel so much.
Within your arms, so happy and free,
Dream a little dream of me.

Tho the stars fade away, I'll linger on,
Longing to linger here till dawn,
Hold me tight, tell me you'll miss me
Say "til next time", then hurry to kiss me.

Dream a little dream of me. ... then,
Dream a Little Dream of Me, Again....

San Diego - A Slightly Different Take!

This last week, San Diego was, once again, the host for an event called "Comic Com"! 2014 was the 40th year the event has been held here! And, once again, it transforms the city!

For those of you who attended the recent Blogger's Bash here, or have followed the Bash through the photos posted....
this is a photo to show what the Gas Lamp district looks like during this event, for comparison to what you saw!

That's right!!! 170,000 to 200,000 MORE people, than the usual 28,000 to 30,000 people who normally frequent the Gas Lamp, Convention Center, and Seaport Village sections on any "other" given day!

What is a Comic Con, and what draws people to it? Nominally, it is supposed to be a convention where people go to see myriads of comic books (old and new), sci-fi/fantasy books, posters and artwork, movies, and video games. It features memorabilia and collectibles; panel discussions for writers and artists; chances to meet past and current stars, directors, and producers, along with getting special previews and sneak peeks at new movies, as well as test playing new video games in the works.

However, I said "supposed to be to see". I believe the real draw these days, is that it has become a place to go where one can step out of their everyday persona, and BE their personal hero for a few days! Although San Diego is transformed during this event, it's true heart comes out in this regard. Everyone can do this, and feel completely at ease doing so! What's more incredible, the costumes these people wear by and large, are all made themselves!!!! It's called Cosplay!

The other big attraction of this event? ...
You never know what you'll see where!!!! Here are a few examples.

I see you in everything around me.
You are always there with me, by my side, with every step I take.

I see the morning sun sparkling off the moistness of your full red lips,
when I see the petals of a dew covered rose.

I see the graceful locks of your hair falling gently on my hands,
when the breeze stirs the leaves and stalks of a tender plant.

I feel the hopes and dreams in your eyes, closed in quiet anticipation of a kiss,
when I see the butterfly lingering for a moment above a new blosom.

I see you in all I do.
I see you in everything around me.
Yes! You are on my mind

Yup! I'm Taking a Leap of Faith!

I'm Going to Jump Off a Cliff!

This past weekend, I went for my usual hike on the trails atop the cliffs that border the shore, near where I live. The vistas on this well-traveled hike of mine are so beautiful, so sweeping and grand, that I always find soothing comfort in them. As I hike along the trail, I stop at all my little “landmarks” along the way, checking on the changes that have occurred since my last sojourn. There's some new cactus flowers on that plant; over here, a new sage rush nest; and over there, a new lizard's hole. Simply bearing witness to Life-in-progress.

At least, that was how this weekend's hike started out. Until I reached the high point on the cliffs, some 300 ft above the ocean. The sky this day was brilliant blue, the tide was low, the sun beating down and heating up the expanse of beach below, a mild cool breeze was blowing in off the ocean and up the cliffs. The weather conditions were perfect!

…. for gliding!

And that is what I came upon! Literally dozens and dozens of people, lining up and launching themselves into the wind from the cliff top, on para-sails, hang gliders, ultra-lights and sail planes!!!!!

I marveled at the way they would first dip down below the cliff top, and turn ever so slightly to parallel the cliff side, racing no more than 20 ft out from the face, gaining speed and momentum as they did. Then, they would head out over the ocean, to catch the updraft, and spiral gracefully up, up up, until they were about 500 ft above the top of the cliffs! Now, here's the best part. Once up at that height, they would turn one more time, and soar for miles in a straight line up the coast, sailing effortlessly over the cliff and beach below, before turning to return again. But, once reaching the launch point, they would continue down the beach in the opposite direction for another few miles.

I spent the next few hours sitting in silent wonder as I watched this grand spectacle, the parade of brightly colored sails, all in a line up and down the coast, drifting along on the invisible thermals. I was in awe as I tried to imagine the sensations all these people were experiencing.

Then, it struck me! I could sit here, with my feet firmly planted on the ground, right where they have always been, bearing witness to Life as it unfolded in front of me, as merely an observer, a silent spectator, as I was now doing!
Orrrrrr, I could screw up my courage, and take a Leap of Faith!
In the process, become a participant of Life!

What's the worse that can happen?

I could end up as a splat on the cliff side, like Wile Coyote in the Road Runner cartoons! But, I would have experienced one of the most exhilarating moments of my Life in the process!

I could crash in the ocean, get swallowed by a whale, and stay in its belly until I get spit out on some distant shore in a foreign country, on a whole other continent, somewhere! But, that would simply be the first part of another journey, right?!!!

The best that could happen?

I would feel first hand, what it is like to soar among the clouds!

So, I've now resolved, before my next birthday, I'm going to do this!
I'm going to ...

Take a Leap of Faith!

So, What IS a Blogger Bash?

And what makes them so great?

My friend BeccaLuvs recently asked in her post More Nipple Fun And Addiction about what blogger bashes were like.
This is probably the best way to describe a "social" blogger bash.

Take the best of times you've ever had with your family;
combine it with the best of times you've had with your closest and most trusted friends;
add to that, a healthy portion of people with vast and varied life experiences;
throw in a heaping dose of sharp wit and quick comebacks;
a dash of deep thoughts;
and a sprinkling of silliness.

Put it in a bowl where everyone who is there is a blogger on a sex sight,
where we all write about whatever we feel,
be it politics, society, daily life, relationships, wishes/wants/desires, ….and SEX.
(in other words, no conversation is off-limits or taboo)

Shake it well, and serve it up in a locale that stimulates the mind and body, yet soothes the soul!

Top it all off with an icing of good food and entertainment!

How can you go wrong?

It's not the activities you do that makes memories;
it is the people you share those activities with.

There is one burning question still remaining for me, a week and a half after the Bash ended, and it is this.
Is being called a “gentleman”, a good thing or bad thing,...when you're on a sex sight?

The Last Road Trip from the San Diego Bash

All in all, this Bash was one of those experiences I won't soon be forgetting. It was fantastic!

I believe the real reason it was such a success was that everyone in attendance contributed what was in their hearts! Many thanks to everyone for making it so!

Unfortunately it was coming to a close, and Sunday was a bitter sweet day. In the morning we had our "farewell breakfast", for many of the Bloggers in attendance had to catch early flights back home. Good byes were said, hugs were shared and a few tears fell.

Those of us still left, (myself, gardenboy321 and KItkat1415 ) made one more excursion: "Olde Towne"!
A reconstruction of what was the early settlement here, built around the surviving mission that still stands.

Believe me, photos do not capture the essence of what was here! To paraphrase my friend FMAOPLS, it was a sensory orgasm!

The aromas of the old fashioned pipe and tobacco shop wafted through the air, followed by the sweet temptations of the candy shop next door, followed still by the fragrances of an old soap and candle shop next to it!
I must admit, some of the shapes of those "old style" cigar tubes were ....ummmm....intriguing!

The tastes of coffees, teas and spices from around the world tantalized, tingled and teased my tongue.

Myriads of vibrant colors floated before my eyes like a kaleidoscope; from hanging peppers to "Day of the Dead" offerings. In fact, Olde Towne annually hosts a very traditional two-day Day of the Dead celebration, culminating in a candlelight procession to the historic El Campo Santo Cemetery!

The free flowing music, beating to nature's rhythm, of hundreds of wind chimes, dream catchers and whirlygigs filled my ears!

The feel of the brush strokes within hundreds of Spanish/Mexican style oil paintings beneath my fingertips, or the texture of the cloth of traditional garb on my hands was phenomenal!

All this was capped off with a "dough made on the premises" dinner in a villa style restaurant!

And, it was the best Mexican dish of the whole event!

So ends the last road trip of the San Diego Bash ......

FOR THIS YEAR!

So many sights....so little time!

The Circus motif of etched glass tiles of Vitrolite gracing Halah's Market. Vitrolite is an opaque pigmented or colored glass, and could be easily etched. Popular in the 1920s to the 1950s, it is often associated with the streamlining of the Art Deco and Art Moderne movements.

The very grand, very posh US Grant Hotel, home of the first electrically lit fountain in the US, Fountain was designed by Irving Gill. The plaza above is well worth a visit, as is the grand ballroom. This building is lit up in blue lights at night.

Arches from Balboa Park

Central Towers in Balboa Park

The mixing of the old and the new. Many of the newer buildings have glass exteriors, reflecting the older buildings that surround them.

More of the old and the new. Some of the newer buildings were designed with "blending in" as a goal.

Even the highways and street junctions are artsy!

So this must be the antique version of Men's mags!

Soooo many sights....so little time!!!!!

The "Mystery Blogger" from my previous post is in the background of this photo. You DO see him, right?
