The fix is live as of March 17th, thanks for the feedback
Looks like the drop downs from the menu bar aren't working for IE7, 8 and 9.
We're working on a fix. For now you fix it by doing this in Internet Explorer: 1. Click on "Tools" 2. Uncheck the Compatibility View option from the menu 3. Close and Restart your browser 4. Log back into the site

We have a new version of the downloadable IMC for you to try out. It's still in development, but it's ready enough to take for a spin.
What we are looking for in a tester: - Ideally you use the downloadable version now - Any Mac users (this version you'll be able to use too) - Willing to use it exclusively for a few days - Be willing to tell us everything you think about it, also outline the issues you are experiencing.
What do you need to do to test it? - Add your name in the comments - I'll email you a link to the downloadable version in your message center - Download and have fun
I'm only posting for testers here, but if you know someone who uses the downloadable version, please turn them onto this post.

Profile Photos Showing Up as Silhouette
|

Here's what happens - Once in a while you'll notice that your profile photo is missing. You'll be posting in a blog and notice that in the comment you left is a gray silhouette where your picture should be. You'll then go to your profile to figure out what is going on, and see that it is still there.
Internally we call this bug number #PHTO-985.
We've pinpointed the bug to an image cacheing issue on our part. It happens because some pages have a different URL to the image than others, so some pages have the silhouette and not the image.
Short term solution: Yesterday we added a "Fix Silhouette" to every photo on the site for our customer service agents. If you email us, let us know your main profile image is a silhouette, we'll be able to fix it.
Long term solution: We'll have to fix this issue. We don't have a timeline on that yet, but we're working with the developer on it.

Active Blogs (by unique responses)

Yes we agree with you. There is a problem with the way we are calculating unique responses, and we are going to fix it. It's bug INST-1116 for those keeping track.
The problem: On the blog main page, the Active Blogs "(by unique responses)" is counting non unique responses. This has lead to members gaming the page to remain in the top spots.
The solution: We are going to do what it says in the title and count each member as one unique response. This should put and end to the issues we are having.
I'll let you know the progress, but usually changes take a release cycle (up to a month) to be implemented. Just wanted to let you know that a fix is coming.

Update on SESN-53: Our Getting Logged Out Bug

Good news for everyone that likes spending time here. We have a handle on one of our biggest issues - getting logged out.
Anyone reading this probably knows what I'm talking about. You're in chat and you get booted off the site. You comment on a blog and suddenly you need to log back on. Sometimes this would happen many times a day. Many of you probably even know the bug number on this one, SESN-53.
Here's a log of the daily complaints on SESN-53 over the past year.
As you can see, for the last year we've been focusing on fixing this issue. It's been getting better (minus a few spikes). This week we actually had our first few days of no one reporting this issue in years.
Few things we've done:
Cookies (the part we have less control over) - In August 2010 we changed the cookie settings so that they only lasted as long as your browser window was open. This way the cookie only lasted while you were looking at the page. These cookies identified who you were/which language you need from page to page.
- Before August 2010, we had an expiration date on the cookies. Having an expiration date on a cookie is a flag for spyware software that protects your computer from bad stuff. Many companies like SpyBot Search and Destroy would kill our cookies because of these expirations, thereby killing your session with us.
Links (the part we have more control over) - We had an issue with some of our links. The way they would direct you would knock you off the site. We did a year long deep dive into our links and fixed them. Since last week, you should have noticed a dramatic decrease in getting logged out.
We'll keep an eye on this. What do you guys think? Have you noticed a difference? Let us know in the comments below.

Why Do I Show Online After I Leave?

I was talking with LAHIFI about his blog where he focuses on issues around logging out. Specifically about why he sees people online that he knows aren't anymore.
Here's how it works on our end...
Logging In:
When you log into the site, you get placed in an "Online Now" database table along with anyone else who is logged in. Whenever we display your information anywhere on the site, we first look at that table to see if your marked as "online."
Logging Off: If you actually hit Log Off, we stop showing you as online. When if you click Log Off, we take your information out of the Online Now table. Every time someone looks at your information, we go back to that table, see your offline and display you as offline.
Closing your browser, or computer without logging off:
When you close your browser without logging off, we don't know about it. There's no flag to us that you've closed your browser, shut the lid on your laptop or turned off your computer. When there is not activity from you, we keep you in the Online Now table for 2 hours. After 2 hours, we consider you offline again.

Classic Profile View Has Been Retired
|

For those of you who have been using the classic profile view, you'll notice it's no longer available. It's been replaced by the new profile view.
About 10 months ago we introduced a cleaner profile. With this new profile we raised limits on the number of photos you could have, and added photo albums to all profiles.
We kept the classic profile view for 10 months so those who preferred it could still use it. Over time it's become more difficult to support 2 versions of the same profile page. For instance, you may have noticed more frequent issues with colors and bling backgrounds. To make profiles more stable, we've moved to the new version for everyone.
You'll notice we've added "Member Since" to the new profile, and updated tables, fonts and colors. The profiles will load about 30% faster as well.
Please spread the word that this is not a bug and let us know you think.

A New Way to Help Fight Fraud

When you report a member for abuse, there is a new dropdown option called "Suspected Fake Account."
How to use it:
Go to the members profile and click the "report member for abuse" link. This will help all of us quickly identify fakes and get them off the site.
We care about fraud:
Everyday our team finds and disables 5000+ fake accounts. We search for patterns that spammers use when flirting, emailing and logging in to find fake accounts. We disable about 97% of all the fakes on the site within the first 24 hours after they register.
Being the largest adult dating site puts a pretty big target on us for fraud. We want you to know that we don't want you to get communication from fraud accounts. It has a measurable impact your happiness and our future. This added form of reporting should help get to those we missed. Hopefully we disable them before they send out a flirt or email.
Let me know if you see any difference in the time it takes to react to a fraud account.

In the past I've run one suggestion box per month, and a separate area for Bugs. I think it's easier to have one post up and keep it as a running conversation.
Well here is that post. Got a suggestion or new bug? Post it here.
