♪♫ I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker...♪♫

While my last hit prediction Crazy continues to hold the No. 1 spot on the Top 40 charts in the UK (it's been there for 4 weeks now), my ears have been tuning into another little gem which I reckon will be a HUGE hit when it gets released.

Sandi Thom's brilliant I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker is taken from her first solo album
Smile... It Confuses People.

Musically, the track itself is mainly percussion, but it’s the lyrics that make this song. She has taken her inspiration from times gone by, when “not everybody drove a car, when music really mattered and when radio was king”. It’s not a time she has personally experienced (she's too young), but it's a simpler time, a time I think I’d have enjoyed too, had I been old enough. Lyrics like that, with that kind of insight must be praised.

Sandi's single has been compared to Janis Joplin’s Mercedes Benz. All sources say the album is fantastic. A toe-tapping, foot-stomping comment on times past and present, and if she's anything like KT Tunstall, then I have no doubt I shall be adding this album to my collection!

Chorus

Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
In 77 and 69 revolution was in the air
I was born too late to a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair

When the head of state didn't play guitar,
Not everybody drove a car,
When music really mattered and radio was king,
When accountants didn't have control
And the media couldn't buy your soul
And computers were still scary and we didn't know everything

Chorus

When popstars still remained a myth
And ignorance could still be bliss
And when God Saved the Queen she turned a Whiter Shade of Pale
When my mom and dad were in their teens
and anarchy was still a dream
and the only way to stay in touch was a letter in the mail

Chorus

When record shops were on top
and vinyl was all that they stocked
and the super info highway was still drifting out in space
were wearing hand me downs,
and playing games meant kick arounds
and footballers still had long hair and dirt across their face

Chorus

I was born too late to a world that does't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair
