If I had a family member join ISIS...they would be disowned and forgotten! Canada lost two military men to radicalism and those two extremists who murdered them are where they belong...in hell! Thank you for the informative post, Koffla!

Personally I think the whole phenomena has been grossly oversimplified which I suppose is pretty understandable considering that most of us live in a cosy sheltered world where gangsters are the only form of evil we can relate to. How many people appreciate that you only have to go back less than 2 centuries to the time when the great inquisitions in Europe saw many millions of poor souls burned alive at the stake in the name of Christianity? And what exactly is terrorism? For instance if we take Islam out of the equation and consider the IRA who to many folks are the oldest terror organisation in living memory. The Irish endured centuries of persecution by the English/British. But to compare let's say Bloody Sunday back in 1920 when the Royal Irish Constabulary had machine guns hidden under covers at Croke Park in Dublin and opened fire on a rugby crowd killing 14 spectators (boy were they poor shots). Now that was government sanctioned and therefore justified. So when the IRA take revenge and plant a few bombs in London, that is no government sanctioned, that is an act of terrorism. Think about that carefully and you see the problem. And then you see there is no solution. The seeds of terrorism were planted many decades ago and we cant change the past. Hopefully like the great inquisitions of Europe, perhaps they will eventually die out after 3 or 4 hundred years. And so if we have learned anything from history we will all be a bot more careful not to plant the seeds of the wave of terrorism that might replace al Qaeda and ISIS. Sir Teezalot WAR IS ABSURD

What does organized crime and terrorists have in common? They depend on fear to keep people from living the life they want to live. What would you do if a family member joins ISIS? I would report them to the FBI. They would be a danger to themselves and others.

What would I do? That would depend on age a young one I would try to get back. Believe there is mother trying to start a movement for that reason. This is just awful...

I do not have any in-laws that have enough energy to join anything but a line with food being served or a "free cigarette" crusade. I'm a Real sucker for nipples Originator of the Cock Salad

Which is all an argument for leaving the warring factions in Iraq, Syria and elsewhere alone to sort out their own problems. Most of what we refer to as the democratic world have a history at least as bad as what is going on in the middle east today and there was no external superpower around to shift the balance.
