The Soundtrack of YOUR Life – What Is Yours?
The Soundtrack of YOUR Life – What Is Yours? To me the purpose of this site(s), and blogging in particular, is to connect with other people – in a positive way. Lately things have not been that way here so instead of the anti-social drivel . . . a thought came to mind, while driving of course, about something almost all of us could write about. The thought initially started when I read and responded to the replies I got when I posted Soundtrack Of My Life R I P Glenn Frey his passing has me a bit bummed. Our lil red Author’s response made me think further and it hit a nerve like when Snook said, “It's like losing a friend”, it was similar to when I heard John Lennon died. While I was driving was when I wondered what other people’s musical tastes are and what they listened to when they were younger and now. What were the lyrics that made a particular song or songs or performer important or memorable to you? The type of music doesn’t really matter; it is, in part, to get to know people here better by learning about their lives through their musical tastes. What I intend to write about is what happened, when, who was involved and the music that accompanied the times. My posts on this will probably be in a few parts. Perhaps, your memories will spark some of mine or the memories of others. Also, part of this is my interest in the performers in the various groups and how I like learning about the history and influences of bands and how their sound can shift some when a member leaves or a new one joins. We have lost a number of memorable musicians in the last year so this could also be a tribute to them in our own little way. The ones I found in no particular order: Glenn Frey David Bowie B B King – The King of Blues Natalie Cole – singer and of Nat King Cole Mic Gillette – first trumpet and founding member of Tower of Power Ben E. King – originally of The Drifters and solo singer/writer Andy Fraser – Bassist for Free co-wrote “All Right Now” Lynn Anderson – Best known for “I Never Promised You A Rose Garden” Mike Porcaro – Bassist for Toto Gary Richrath – Guitarist for REO Speedwagon Chris Squire – founding member of Yes William Guest – singer and member of Gladys Knight & the Pips Cynthia Robinson – trumpeter and original member of Sly and the Family Stone P.F. Sloan – songwriter of "Eve of Destruction" and "Secret Agent Man," Dennis Greene – a founding member of Sha Na Na Lesley Gore – Best known for "You Don't Own Me" and "It's My Party" Willie C. Jackson – member of The Spaniels "Goodnite, Sweetheart, Goodnite" Brian Carman – Guitarist of The Chantays “Pipeline” Jimmy Greenspoon – Keyboardist/singer Three Night Michael Brown – Keyboardist The Left Banke “Walk Away Renee” Bob Burns – Drummer Lynyrd Skynyrd “Free Bird” Percy Sledge – “When A Man Loves A Woman” Wally Lester – member of The Skyliners “Since I Don’t Have You” Jack Ely – Singer/guitarist The Kingsmen “Louie Louie” Ronnie Gilbert – The Weavers "This Land Is Your Land" If you think this is a good idea please post up our version of The Soundtrack Of YOUR Life because I would be interested in reading what your musical tastes and backgrounds are. Also, there are a lot of other bloggers who don’t read my posts but do read yours so again if you think this is a good idea please suggest it to your readers. I would love to read a post on your blog about your musical tastes. Post a link here if you do write one. Let me know what ya think? First of all thank you for mentioning my quiz. You could add Dallas Taylor (Drummer with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) and Jimmy Bain (Rainbow bassist) to the list of musicians recently passed. Bowie's death hit me hard as I had been a fan since 'Ziggy'. My favourite artists are currently: Neil Young Paul Weller Richard Hawley Ian McNabb Nick Cave Rumer Other groups I collect and enjoy listening too are: Queen Deep Purple Free Beatles REM Pink Floyd Led Zeppelin Mott The Hoople U2

Was really into the Moody Blues for a long long time. Great music, good words as well. Wish I'd gotten to see the Eagles live though, would have been a real highlight!! When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

You mean all the old eight track tapes I used to listen to Boy... I would have to think on it a while to remember all the names of the bands let alone the songs. I remember BTO, Boston, Supertramp, ZZ Top, Bob Seger, Black Sabbath, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith, Deep Purple.... I will have to think about doing this. I gave an away a lot of eight track tapes and cassettes when I switched over to collecting records and CD's. I never have replaced most of the older stuff from the 70's and early 80's that was on tapes. You know you're getting older when your entertainers from your childhood and teenage years are dying off. I loved the Eagles a lot too, but I have to say being a country girl I would have to say mine is Patsy Cline's Anthology. She was an amazing lady and singer, and left us way to soon.. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I have very eclectic musical tastes, everything from Johnny Cash to Adele. Some of my favorites, in no particular order: Supernaut - Black Sabbath NWO - Ministry Love don't die - the Fray Rolling Stone - Reuben and the dark Rehab - Amy Winehouse Splinter - Nirvana The Pretender - Foo Fighters Girls - The Beastie Boys Nearly forgot my broken heart - Chris Cornell Wipe Out - Toy dolls Running up that hill - Kate Bush Add it up - Violent Femmes I was sorry to hear of Frey's passing, as I was of David Bowie's. Music can have such an influence on your life. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Punk, (British) New Wave, Goth and Grunge. Can you tell I'm a child of the 70s and 80s? I was in a band for several years and while we played a lot of pop to make money, we fed our souls with The Clash, Joy Division, Spandau Ballet, The Pogues, Souxie and the Banshees, Kate Bush, The Psychedelic Furs, Tears for Fears, early Police etc, etc, etc. About the time I was getting out of music, a friend gave me the headphones to his walkman and said, "just listen to this. Just. Listen." It was "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and it blew me the fuck away because compared to when was on the radio at that time, there was so much of the raw bleeding anger the rock and roll is all about. So my early adulthood was populated by a lot of alt music like AIC, Sonic Youth, etc And being a little girl from Jersy, Springsteen and BoJovi, of course. It's a birthright. I do like The Clash, Spandau Ballet (True is very cool), Springsteen and BoJovi are XLNT too. When I first heard “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” I was on the road to Palm Springs right were the video was filmed. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

We baby boomers had some awesome music growing up into our teens and young adult hood. When I was a younger, teens, would be hard rock with Led Zepp&Pink Floyd being my top two! But my true love of music will always be Neil Young...hes my God..I love his lyrics, music, and his free spirit! Hes still rocking hard, and got to see him for the third time this past summer in Bethel Woods, Woodstock NY.. I'm over classic rock, did that done that thing, and my taste has changed to alternative music, and chill music with Pandora, its my bitch now!!! I am like mc, a music whore with my tastes changing, and I listen to music almost everyday!! Its my air that I breathe..... When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

My favourites from your list would be Percy Sledge, BB King and of course Glenn Frey. I listen to all kinds of music...but thinking about it it's mostly music from the 50s to 80s. Not saying the majority of 80s music is "good", but there are some gems in there. I inherited my parents old lp collection when they passed and I've kept most of them ever since. I also listen to a lot of classical music. Would love to read a post from you about your musical tastes. Post a link here if you do. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. George hung out with me when I worked on his bike in the early 90s when I worked at the Harley dealership. He's quite the average Joe, wears a lot of Rugby shirts and baseball hats when he's not on stage. He's pretty short and being 5'9" I don't get to say that much.

A brilliant idea Red....I must admit to be highly pissed off with a lot of Blogland just now. I often included song lyrics in past posts....music has been a huge part of my life and there are certain songs....if hear them...just transport me back to a specific time and place. I take it you have no objection to me linking to you and this post. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I had a vague knowledge that Frey was ill, but not to the point of surgery or possible death. Lennon was a big shock too. My tastes are from Sinatra (my parents music) to rock and even a bit of country (long story). I love Sinatra, especially the Duets album. And don't get me started on country, I love Dwight Yoakam, I love twangy. I remember Bob Marley announcing he did NOT have brain cancer a few months before he died from it. Would love to read a post from you about your musical tastes. Post a link here if you do. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
