Did I give a mouse a bath

I went down to the basement the other day and put a load of clothes in the washing machine and turned it on then added the detergent and closed the lid.

I looked up at the top of the wall next to the washer and noticed that the mouse trap that was up there on the ledge of the stone wall was not there.

So I looked around on the floor and seeing nothing there I looked around on the top of the wall area thinking maybe the mouse had got his leg caught in the trap and dragged it off. I couldn't see it anywhere around there either.

The thought occurred to me that maybe the trap had fallen into the washing machine but it was full of clothes and filling up with water and had the detergent already poured on the clothes. So I looked around behind the machine... nothing except cobwebs... and dust bunnies...

Well I figured there was no way I was going to take all those wet soapy clothes out of the machine just to check to see if the mouse trap had fallen in the machine. I wondered if the trap had a mouse in it or not... if it was in the machine...

So I figured when I came back down later to move the clothes from the washing machine to the dryer I would check to see if the trap was in there or not and if it had a mouse in it or not.

Not surprisingly my work plans for the day got changed around a bit and I didn't get back home till after 10:00 PM. Surprisingly I remembered I had a load of clothes in the machine but totally forgot about the possibility of there being a mouse trap and maybe even a mouse in the wash. So I went and moved all the clothes to the dryer and turned it on and went upstairs to my bedroom.

A couple of days later (today) I remembered I had a load of clothes in the dryer that needed to be put away. So down I went to the basement and the washer/dryer area. When I walked up to the dryer I looked up and remembered the missing mouse trap So I opened the door of the dryer and started to pull the clothes out that I needed for work today and I found a mouse trap closed on the unbuttoned button up neck opening of a Henley shirt. No mouse to be seen as of yet.

As I continued to take clothes out of the dryer and fold them or hang them I caught the hint of an odor... Hmmm... I thought... that kind of smells mousy to me. so I stopped folding and started taking clothes out and putting them back in the washer after searching them.. pockets and all for the remains of Mickey.

I found him... or her after I had just about emptied the dryer. Mickey was stuck to the sleeve of one of my shirts with his claws clinging to the fabric. After prying Mickey loose and giving him/her the proper honors and depositing the clean and dried but lifeless stiff body in the trashcan I went back to the basement and finished starting the rewash of the clothes.

Now I've been feeling like I've been through the wringer lately... but I know I'm feeling a whole hell of a lot better then Mickey.

I'd like to say that I would've been grossed out. But I can't. Always try yo be more of a girlie-girl but that story was funny ...pity it meant you had to rewash.

I didn't think I could stand going around for the rest of the week wearing clothes that had the smell of a dead mouse

That was hilarious, but only because it happened to you and not to me. If I would have thought there was the possibility of a mouse in the laundry I would have panicked. I may have been brave enough to peek through the laundry to check for the mouse, but upon finding it I would have screamed and ran in the opposite direction, not to return until someone removed the mouse for me. I saw a gecko in my home, put a bowl over it, called my son to come over and get it out of the house. I have a good son.

Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed the laugh.

Think of it as a ritual cleansing prior to "burial".

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Mickey was clean and dry but a bit stiff almost as if he had been starched
