Pet names.. or pet peeves..?

So.. while I was shopping this evening, I spotted a rare and unusual sight.. a normal "check out till" rather one of the self checkout 'express' tills which I absolutely detest. So I rolled myself over, to be greeted by "hello pet".

Now, if this was by a little old lady, I most probably would not have batted an eyelid, give it a second thought or be mildly amused.. but the fact that it was a by a female, who appeared to be a few years younger than me.. made me stop and think.

As the shopping was being put through, we made polite chitchat, discussed the change in the weather, holidays blah blah blah, but with every question/answer/statement came a 'love' 'pet' 'darling'..

Got me thinking do I use pet names? I suppose so with people that I consider myself close to, am I guilty of calling someone a babe, sweetie, baby ? Rarely in public and NEVER to a stranger lol.

So tell me.. pet names? Like or loathe them? Or like me, does it depend upon the person doing the name calling? Also.. what is the worst pet name you have been called?

 I reckon 'peachy' would be an appropriate pet name for you McMinx.

I think I use pet names quite often, like honey pie, guapa, hen broon, I expect it's quite irritating to hear, but hey, I cannae help myself.
