Al Pacino is coming to town.

Al Pacino is coming to town.

O M G Al Pacino is coming to Glasgow's Clyde Auditorium in May for An Evening With, yes, you've guessed it, Al Pacino!

I thought it was maybe an early April 1st joke, but no, he's been touring other venues, and on the 19th of May he'll be sharing stories of his career, and taking questions from the audience.

I'm a huge Pacino fan. I actually feel nervous at the thought of possibly seeing this Hollywood legend. Who could forget his outstanding performances in classics such as Serpico, Day Afternoon, Scarface, and, of course, The Godfather. I also loved him in Frankie and Johnny, and Sea of Love. Too many films to mention...

I imagine tickets will sell quickly. They're priced at £60-£150, but come on, it is Al Pacino!

I guess I'm a little concerned that the Al Pacino who will be interviewed on stage won't be the Hollywood Al I see in all those films I love so much. Will he leave me disappointed? Will I wonder what I ever saw in him? Will it end my relationship with Al?

What do you think? Would you want to meet one of your favourite actors? I think the term "idol" might be OTT. But if you have one, have you met them? Did they leave you feeling disappointed or wishing you hadn't met them?

Oh, the dilemma...

"I'm always disappointed when a liar's pants don't actually catch on fire..."

Sorry, I forgot to mention. I also love the photo quote. Is it OK to steal it?

Anything done half-heartedly will net you an equivalent result. ~CH

Well, I stole it from Al, so of course, steal away!

All his movies are good. I especially like Sea of Love, for a few reasons.

I think it will be a fascinating night! I wanted to go but couldn't afford the tickets The cheaper ones yeah, but wouldn't be able to see him and what's the point in that? Bummer!!

I hope you enjoy the night with Al

The ticket prices are expensive, I agree. I'm sorry you couldn't go.

I'm sure they'll have a big screen for the cheap(er) seats at the back, but like you I didn't want to go and not be able to see him.

Thanks, Polly, I'm sure it will be a great night!

Al Pacino is the epitome of cool, so I hope you're going to go. Did you get tickets? I hope so. I'm sure it will be a night to remember

He sure is!

And, yes, I am! We got great tickets not far from the stage. I'm really excited at the thought of seeing him

Oh you have to go and see him Holly. He'll be dead soon enough and you'll be one of the few people in the world who can say "Hey! I saw him in the flesh!" a true hollywood icon!

I really hope you get tickets! Good luck!!

Dead soon enough what?! Hahaha, but I know what you mean.

Thanks for the good luck wishes

They do say never meet your idols, however the disappointment comes from random encounters where famous people are caught off-guard by people they don't even know are fans. It's not like you're bumping into him in a car park or while he's doing his shopping.

I would've thought at 'An evening with' will be slightly stage managed and that Al with be more than ready for his public.

I once met Harry Hill after a performance in London with two of my university friends who were completely star struck - he was their favourite comedian, I merely thought he was pretty good. I made a reference to Oscar Wilde which he didn't understand after which I shut up and let my friends worship him . . .

Horny_Holly replies on 4/1/2015 8:05 pm:
The review by the Guardian was from the London Palladium performance, and he was introduced and interviewed by Emma Freud. The reviewer says Pacino retained his "mystery and his magic". Freud's questions not really anything of great substance, so yes, as you said, stage managed with the exception of the questions from the audience.

I hate Harry Hill My five year old nephew gets a giggle out of "You've Been Framed" - I think it's still called that, and HH is just awful. I've yet to laugh at any of his commentary. They should just show the clips and cut him out of the show. He adds nothing to the show. Well, he annoys me a lot, so I guess he's adding something

Suffice to say I'm as Wilde about Hill as you are. See what I did there

It's the stories that he doesn't share with the general public that I'd be interested in hearing. You might get a peek into his personal life with this event.
Like you, watching his interviews on tv, he seems pretty down to earth.

Horny_Holly replies on 4/1/2015 8:20 pm:
I would certainly hope we'd get a couple of stories he hasn't told in previous interviews. But I doubt he'd speak about his personal life, and that's okay. No matter how big a star, he's still entitled to a private life, and I respect that.

Yeah, I agree, he's pretty cool and relaxed, good to watch

You should go! He'll probably never return (being that he's so old LOL ), and as Lisa said he'll probably be cool He comes across as cool when being interviewed.

Yes, you run the risk of disappointment, but will you regret it if you didn't at least try to see him?

Good luck getting tickets if you decide to go!! They'll sell out quickly!!

I liked "Scent of a Woman" a lot. I think he's a fine actor, except for "Scarface". But, hell, even Bugs Bunny had bad days.
I'm not sure i'd want to meet any actors. Like my most revered writers, they have to have a hard time living up to the person you imagined. But- I'd love to meet Margaret Atwood.

I loved Scent of a Woman. Had he asked, I'd have danced with him all night long

Margaret Atwood does promotional tours, so you never know, you might get to meet her yet!

Good question. I don't rightly know if I'd want to meet someone like that. I'd HOPE they aren't like the larger-than-life characters they portray. That would be disappointing. I'd hope they'd be completely different. That's a surprise. Then again, I've rarely been interested enough in an actor/actress to follow anything about their personal lives. I'll admire their talent, their phenomenal performances, but leave it at that.

Smart as a horse and hung like Einstein.

Horny_Holly replies on 4/1/2015 7:49 pm:
Haha, well, I don't imagine he'll be pulling a Scarface on stage and shoving coke up his nose

I'm going to take the plunge and hope there are tickets left in the morning. Wish me luck!

Pacino is my favorite actor too, I love almost every character he portrays. I Wonder what he's really like in person.

Horny_Holly replies on 3/31/2015 3:40 pm:
Part of a review of An Evening with Al Pacino (three years ago) from The Guardian newspaper;

"He talks about his love of theatre, recites the Ballad of Reading Gaol, quiffs his wonderful hair throughout, worries that we might be bored as he drifts from story to story, and is utterly lovable. But do we discover the real Al? No. But he says that's been a lifelong puzzle for him, too. Which is the part you have played that is closest to you, asks an audience member. "Listen," he says, "if I knew who me was, I wouldn't be an actor.""

I've seen a couple of interviews on Letterman and he's funny to watch. There's a great one from 2013 where Kevin Spacey makes a surprise appearance and does an impersonation of Pacino. Funny stuff.

I'm a huge De Niro fan, too. But he clearly doesn't like being interviewed and I found him to be a huge disappointment. It didn't take away from his great films, of course, but if I'm honest, I kind of wish I hadn't seen him look so uncomfortable.
