What ever happened to…

multiple Grammy winner K.D. Lang

I was just at the grocery store, and heard her magnificent voice singing her biggest hit “Constant Craving”. If you don’t know the song… U-tube it. If you are / were not a fan of Country (sorry Alternative Country) and you don’t know who she is, think… Roy Orbison - Crying… they did a memorable duet together. And if you don’t know who Roy Orbison is well then

Anyway, I started thinking about her… how she and other musical artist, just arrive on the scene to the masses (usually after years of toil); they are heavily promoted by record labels as the flavor of the moment, then dropped like a pair of dirty underwear. There are just so many of them, from Alanis Morissette (Jagged Little Pill), to Color Me Badd (I want to sex you up), to the Knack (Get the Knack). These artist all sang about sex and relationships… but way back when, that’s all everyone mostly sang about. The only one who still seems to sing about sex now, all the time is Ludacris. But I digress.

If you care too, give me your favorite “Flash in the Pan” (and I don’t mean members of the group Flash in the Pan), artists.

TC, I expect you to cover off the disco era.

I leave with the words of what I get from reading all your words, fellow bloggers. K.D. Lang’s, Constant Craving

Even through the darkest phase
Be it thick or thin
Always someone marches brave
Here beneath my skin

And constant craving has always been

Maybe a great magnet pulls
All souls towards truth
Or maybe it is life itself
Feeds wisdom to its youth

Constant craving has always been

Craving, ah, ha
Constant craving has always been
Has always been

Constant craving has always been
Constant craving has always been

Craving, ah, ha
Constant craving has always been
Has always been
Has always been
Has always been
Has always been
Has always been

One that I loved is "The Power of Love" by Jennifer Rush....a great voice.

Yea ....anyone who doesn't know who Roy Orbison was is unbelievable.

I remember kd lang. Other one-hit wonders are Carl Douglas's Kung Fu Fighting and Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky - he did literally disappear; I think the record company couldn't trace him to pay royalties to him.
From the golden disco era, there's Van McCoy's The Hustle, Wild Cherry's Play that Funky Music, Eruption's I Can't Stand the Rain, McFadden & Whitehead's Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now, Amii Stewart's Knock on Wood, Anita Ward's Ring My Bell, Lipps Inc's Funkytown and The Weather Girls' It's Raining Men.
I'm getting nostalgic now and going to get the disco music on for a bit of solo dancing!
Disco rocks!

She is from your part of the world. Sinead, disappeared from the North American scene after the war of words with Frank Sinatra over the plaingy of the U.S. national anthem. Could you imagine if Twitter would have been around then?

I remember that

No doubt, you bring that kind of emotional passion into every encounter.

There was just as powerful a song with the same title released the same year (1984).

The Power of Love - Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

There were a few from that time and that genre

    Kelita

    Lyle Lovett
Lyle Lovett I 'm familiar with.

Kelita totally stumped... I am absolutely unfamiliar with this artist. Went to her website and UTube for a listen... still unfamiliar.

Whoa there, Lyle Lovett is NO flash in the pan! He's a long simmering kind of dude..... just getting better and better with every bubble!

Young MC's Bust a Move was a flash.... Eddie Grant's Electric Avenue is another!

And who could forget Funkytown?

True Lyle was around for a long time... but his time in the spotlight of the masses was relatively brief. The rest definitely came and went quickly.
