Freedom…
Freedom… defined as: the state of being free or at liberty rather than in confinement or under physical restraint. In any society with rules of conduct (written or unwritten), is it possible for any of us to be truly free in any aspect of life, or even sexually for that matter? Find pleasure in giving pleasure |

I don't think we can ever be truly free. Another more psotive view of freedom is the ability to fulfill one's own potential. This view requires redistribution of power and wealth from the rich to the poor. The rich are free to do more than the poor even when not confined.

We were both up late...on different parts of the planet. Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waitin' for a train And I's feelin' near as faded as my jeans When you're invested in something, you give up a bit of freedom, or a lot of it. You OWE something, and have obligations. Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose Nothin', don't mean nothin' hon' if it ain't free When you bump the bottom, you owe no one and nothing is expected of you. You very nearly cease to exist in the reckonings of the crowd around you. I think this is freedom but it comes with a cost. Buddha teaches this- the eradication of expectations. Disengagement in order to achieve understanding. Better? Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Nope... we arent free... not completely. Too many rules and judgments to ever really be free in every way. If I were a hermit living in the woods 500 miles from the nearest person, I might think differently

It's impossible to be completely free...there are obligations on us all, social, family, legal, moral. We can never and should never be in the position of doing everything we want. ~~Anais Nin~~

J. you know I am a bit of an idealist. I didn't want to inject geography into the discussion, but to discuss how the concept is defined and the reality of human existence. Find pleasure in giving pleasure

I think the defining factor is the physical restraint we are free to move about - can work hard and prosper or we can choose to live on the streets but with that freedom there is a responsibility to live within a set of rules designed so the we in essence do not infringe upon anyone else s freedoms Find pleasure in giving pleasure

Agreed, it is because we and others can't collectively act in a responsible manner towards others, that limits our freedom. But the more freedom we want, the more we have to allow other to have. Find pleasure in giving pleasure

It all depends on the side of the coin you are on. The golden rule as it is called... "do onto other", is just being more and more legislated, so that others can also enjoy the same level of freedom. For example, women, visible minorities, LGBT etc. Just think, if the internet was around 60, 70, 80 years ago, would we be able to do what we do on this website... or would someone like Joseph McCarthy be stocking us with tar and feathers, or worse. -H', you would think we would be free to love who we want. Even though the "rules" may say we can, powerful portions of society are dead set against us loving freely. Find pleasure in giving pleasure
