Hmmmm.... I can't remember the last time I used, or even heard someone else use, the word slut. In a derogatory form anyway. I think there's two parts to the slut shaming phenomenon.... the first is that women who are insecure about the sexual part of themselves tend to put other women down for showing, by their attire, that they are NOT insecure about being desirable or showing desire. It's kind of ingrained in humans to put others down for things that we are threatened by. Some can be more catty than others. The second part, in my opinion, is that as a gender, women have worked SO hard to become equal partners to men, so some see women who dress/act the slut role as regressing our image as strong, capable people. Who don't have to fall back on their individual body parts to get attention. What's funny is that I bet if you ask 100 women what's the sexiest thing a man can wear, 95 of them will say a suit. (the other 5 will say his skin) So, our enjoyment of sex HAS to be more private.... imagine if you worked with an office full of women wearing lingerie?

I just got called a "loving and fun slut" by a new male friend, and I know he meant it as a compliment. While I have often called myself various versions of a slut, "I'm a book slut", "Well, I guess I am just a slut", "Don't I just sound like a huge slut?" ,"I'm a slut for good grammar"and stuff like that, I don't think anyone has ever called me one to my face and meant it as a compliment. Those poly people sure are fun, now aren't they?
