Just Wondering

I wonder if anyone can educate me on this?

Every now and then I come across a blog title that attracts me and I visit to see if it is one that would interest me. When I get there I see something that says:

"This blog is only viewable (I really don't remember what they usually say, but it is something to that effect) to friends of this blogger."

Is this person only writing for a select few people (I have no problem with it since I'm very choosy myself of who I call friend), did someone become abusive and they realize that they are not able to handle the abuse, or do they worry about who might encounter them on a site such as this?

Just wondering.

Various reason some you touched on. Sometimes people gather people around them who they have established a long term rapport and so use their blog most likely as a personal interaction blog. Others have an open door policy however you might find if your blog becomes really popular that some people get threatened by this or others become abusive and thus they invite friends to view only.

Some become far to attached to someone that doesn't want their attention. The only way to stop them from reading is "friends only" which only allows your network to view your blog.

Makes sense. And I guess, in some instances, that person would be comfortable enough that they're not worried about attracting new followers.

Not a bad idea. Makes sense to me. Thank you both for the information.

I just think it's feeble... If someone comes to your blog and is abusive, you can block them on an offender by offender basis. Blocking all except your friends network is just childish and after I have tried to open posts from one member 3 times and discovered that they do only friends only posts, I block them from my blog for effectively blocking me from theirs. I refuse to join the friends network of anyone so insular. If I want to communicate with my friends only, they will get individual emails.
Thanks for that. I wondered what the idea was at first. I just said "Oh, Well!
