I remember the clink of the milk bottles and the wire crate that held 6. Can't say the milkman did anything for me though. Now if we're talking milk maids then you are on!!

I can remember milk and bread delivered to the house up until the mid sixties. Mrs Bairds used to have these crème covered cake donuts dipped in dark chocolate and swirled like an ice cream cone...

Sorry, I put on a couple of pounds just remembering them.

Hmmm, you recall the reputation the milkman had?

Young hunk huh?

How did you manage not to get out of the car feign car trouble and casually raise your skirt a few inches? I would have appreciated it in his place.

Stand and deliver, Mr. Milkman.

It was the squirt of warm milk right from the cows teat that finished me on milk. For God's sake, had these people never heard of Louis Pasteur? it's hard enough to eat eggs considering where they come from. I was disappointed brown cows didn't give chocolate milk.

I'm awfully fastidious for a guy who worked on a ranch summers.

You can't milk steers and they don't lay eggs.

But milkmen, really? Now little green men in flying saucers I'd believe in a minute, but a milkman? Talk about your extinct professions ....

Well funny enough I have noticed the same thing a few times when I have been out on my morning walks lately.

Except now it is clearly a different type of service. In the old days it was door to door mild delivery, just like the mail man and newspaper boy. Now I think it is a bit more like the pizza delivery.

The truck I see here is not just milk but a "dairy" delivery doing yoghurts and other such things too.

I do wonder about the economics of it all when the truck has to drive all the way to our little estate to make just one or two deliveries.

But then the big supermarket chains and even the big liquor stores also deliver now.

I've never seen a milkman. We do have local dairies that sell milk in the glass bottles though. I feel so deprived

Chocolate milk mustache kisses!
I would take them from you and almost anyone else!
I love it that you saw the "milkman". Makes you think that
if you saw that, you will next see the "perfect man"!

No you don't see them here any more. When I was on the farm I was the milk man Dad had to tie up bossy tail when he was teaching me how to milk the cow.. So she would not swat me. After a while she was ok with it and did not have to tie up her tail.

Oh thanks for bringing back that memory.

The Milkman... wasn't that a Kevin Costner movie?Ok, seriously yeah, I certainly remember milkmen, breadmen and Fuller Brushmen too! I think my parents had home milk delivery until the late 70s. And from the wayback machine, when I was very young, there was a horse drawn bread wagon in the neigborhood I lived in. Now that I've really dated myself I'll take that Chocolate milk moustache kiss and be on my way!

I grew up on a dairy farm, so we never had milk delivery. But I do remember the glass bottles for the milk. . Now that you mention it, why did we not get sick from warm milk?. I remember actually drinking untreated milk direct from the cow,, today I would never dare do it

Your post reminded me of a joke told to me years ago by a clergyman.

An old man put his parrot by the door and went off to bed. Early in the morning the milk man arrived. The parrot heard the clinking of the bottles and said, "Who is it?" The MM was startled but replied, "It's the milkman". The parrot said again, "Who is it?" and the MM answered again, "It's the MM". But the parrot continued, "Who is it?" and the MM again said, It's the MM". The parrot didn't relent and asked again and again and again. Each time the MM retorted, "It's the MM" but with increaslingly more volume and energy. Well, this goes on for hours and finally the MM collapses at the door step from exhaustion. The old man gets up at his usually early hour and goes to fetch his paper and milk. He opens the door to see a man lying on his front step. He says, to know one in particular, "Who is it?" and the parrot answers......

now, when you said, guess what i saw?
the first thing that came to my mind was sasquach.
it never even entered my mind to think, milkman.
when i was just a young buck, we had milk delivered every three day's, in bottles, and that was whole milk just fresh from yesterday, with a quarter inch of cream at the top of every bottle, not this pastureized stuff that goes bad real fast.
wow, that takes me back a way's.
is anyone else having a problem with spell check not working?

No milkmen in my neighborhood growing up. I think it must have been more of a small town thing by the time we were growing up. You were raised in a small town? I should go back and post that on your questions post...

That is so cool. I grew up on a farm so we got our milk the old fashioned way, but I do remember icehouses.

Missy, maybe he got the job to be like the pool boy, he knows when the old man leaves for work. On a serious note, people are trying to get back to nature, I bet he charges 6$ per quart.
