Sketchy profiles If you have ever been out on the prowl and come across one you know what I am talking about. I have recently found a few. Only one locally, and frightening it is. Seen the photos a few times before, and am wondering, how many poor guys get suckered into sending an email in hopes of a potential booty call. I am not clucking at them. I was young once and more than full of it. To say the least I would have jumped at some things I see out there now, but that was then. I have a decade or two of knowledge to keep me off that path these days. Even so. ... And then for those who do. Having been in on a conversation or two, I have gotten an email asking me to send an email to another address. Sounds off the wall doesn't it? Then when you think about it, if you send an email, and start up a conversation, well, lets just say you let the fox in the hen house. it might not have the hens yet, but it is in the house. Conversation is the next key here. I know how it works, with a young guy wanting to share, and get a good foot in the door to a potential long term relation with a lady who could entice the clothes off the devil given a chance. Eliciting things like name, place of birth, place you live, maybe a little family history. . .. And boom. Next thing you know, your email has been hacked. Think another step down the line to a phone. those have more info on them. Almost as much, if not more than some computers. Accounts, credit card info, and a number of other things best left off the public net. but still, some folks just don't know better, and can be enticed by a fake account. So what do you do? If you see one, do you report it, or write to verify they are indeed spamming and scamming? Are you smart enough not to go there, but by not doing anything letting it continue? I know I am rambling a bit here, but this is something that bothers me in a way that gets me riled. Now as a point of having caught some one you know doing this, what would you do? step up and personally lay into them, turn them in, or just plain leave them be saying live and let live? I realize there may be other options, but at the moment they are simply not occurring to me. That tells me it is getting late. And that means perhaps I should be trying to sleep. Maybe better answers will occur to me in the morning. |

I do deal with these. If I mislead anyone when I posted this, sorry for doing so. Even so, I am glad to note there are enough folks out there who have other ways to deal with them. Looking back, I have seen them reported to the site, some people directly attack them, and others still will note who they are, but do not try to correct or go after them. Whichever method you choose, at least you deal with them in your own way. It might not be how I deal with it, but there is appreciation for the fact that you do deal with it.

No matter how visibly fake a profile is, chances are, there is someone out there who will not be able to tell it is fake, and get taken. I think I would probably report it, just to save some poor soul who will undoubtedly fall for the scheme.

I don't bother with profiles like that, but on the other hand, they view, flirt, or hot list me. I play Duke Nuke 'Em with the assholes !! If they happen to have a stolen photo off the internet ( which google reverse image, works quite well or Tin-eye) leave a nasty comment on the photo and still turn the SOB in for being fake. Real easy, takes only a couple of minutes to fill out the complaint and usually within a couple of hours POOF!!! the profile is gone. But those scammers have so many sitting on the shelf, it's almost a losing battle.
