Retirement

My husband and I are a few years out from retirement, but have started thinking about where we want to be. I always thought that I would live in the house I own until my death. It would be a place for my to come home to and to share their past with their . Increasingly, we're seeing obstacles to that dream.

For one, there are too many steep stairs. In our thirties, those stairs were easy to run up and down. I thought about redesigning the downstairs so that there was first floor master bedroom and a full bath. It just is not a feasible solution. Plus, there is a second issue, taxes have skyrocketed in the twenty years we have lived here. And, taking care of the house and land is ridiculous.

Last winter and the fridget temperatures helped me to convince my husband that Florida was a good alterative for us. He worried though about the humidity. Well, we just returned from Alaska and the Pacific Northwest and he wants me to research the Portland OR/Vancouver WA area. So far, the Vancouver burbs are looking desirable.

So, how much square footage do two old geezers realistically need?

I will say a big bank or 401k account and small town home.

I suppose I'd be happy with 1300 to 1500 ft. Two bedrooms and two baths. It would be nice to be in a community with a pool.

Townhome or condo is lower maintenance than a house. There are also communities for people who are 50 plus which can have provide great social support.

The 55+ communitities have one major draw back for a retiree. Upon our death, our children would not be able to live in it and would need to quickly sell it.

Townhouses pose a problem in most are two stories. I want to have everything on one floor. If we buy a house, we'll make sure there is only a small yard and lots of creative, non-maintenance landscape.

The Portland/Vancouver area is great, you have everything you need in a city. You are also within a 90 min drive of the coast, mountains/skiing, wine country, the gorge, high desert, nude beaches and much more.

Nude beaches....I forgot to put them on my list of must haves.

When I think of FL, I always imagine a nice secluded pool that I can take a skinny dip in.

Just my school taxes alone could save us a fortune. I'm just wishing house values go back up before I am ready to sell.

Well.. I'm only one year away. I'm selling my house. I'm shooting for small and easy place to live. My mother is living in a 55+ It is has been very for her.
My money is what I work long and hard here. They will get some from me but I need to take care myself. They are busy.

Cum to my blog and respond. Have a great kissing fun time.

I look at small and keep thinking I need more room. I think that my husband and I need private spaces away from each other. Of course, the spaces can have double duty. After all these yeaars having a formal dining room that got used once or twice a year, I can see giving that up. So, I can give up 200 sq feet or so.
