Robin Williams
Robin Williams Like most of the world I was stunned to hear the news yesterday. I like most will always remember his movies and be able to repeat some of his most famous lines. And I believe like most people I would remember him laughing and always smiling. That is at least up to today how I would have remembered him. However, today the media plastered his face all over tv and the internet. And oddly, all of a sudden, his face looks serious or troubled, and his eyes sad. Did we all miss this for years? I think not. I think the media is delibrately selecting those photos that portray this newly uncovered aspect of the man. Why do they feel the need to do this? It is lost on me. Another thing I read that disturbed me was a fan commenting on the original news release in which it says he was last seen alive at 10pm and found by his assistant at 11am. The fan belittled his life and relationship, making fun that the house was so big a death could go unnoticed for days. And he questioned the marital status, as his wife hadn't seen him during that time. Why is this person stretching to make things sound worse? A man died, that is bad enough. I just needed to rant. Thank you for giving me the chance. While I have your attention. It was a very long time ago and I don't remember very well, but I remember not understanding it at the time. What was going on in "The World According to Garp"? Maybe I was too young and naive, but I thought there was a whole lot of weird stuff going on. Perhaps I should revisit the movie. The media always looks for the exact photos to convey what they are trying to get across. Not every photo of anyone is flattering, especially candid shots. As far as some of the totally moronic statements by people claiming to be a fan but their comments speak a different truth. I met Mr. Williams several years ago on LA and we had a brief conversation. One-on-one, I found him to be more of a regular guy than putting on a show. I respect his genius, his humanity and the gift of laughter he left us. I am saddened by his passing but I also understand the pain he must have been in in order to make that difficult choice.

I have read many posts bashing his life and bashing his mental illness and his "cop out"and "selfishness". Unless people suffer from depression and bipolar, or someone in their family has it who is close to them, they will NEVER understand the impact that this illness carries. His wife said she saw him at bedtime and thought he was still sleeping when she left. Why are so many people questioning that. Stay out of his personal life and for the most part he kept it out of the media eye. Depression and Bipolar is a very dark place and it is very difficult to see the light. I believe in what you say about the media painting him in a bad light now. But I have seen the pain in his eyes for quite some time. But with most illnesses, one has up days and down days. Once one spirals to the bottom, it takes a lot to climb the mountain back to daily living. My heart is with his family and friends as they are grieving a terrible loss. They will know first hand how he has suffered through the years...let him rest. He's had a battle that some can relate to and others cant. Nice post LadyJ. He touched many of our lives. I know I will miss his laughter and his movies but I truly do hope he is at peace now. None of us will ever know.

a super tuned in talent for sure. The greats always go too soon. I would recommend reading Irving's book from which the movie was made then watch it again. Adds so much. ~~~~~~~~~ The lover you'll never not wish you didn't have - or did... I forget.... what was your name again.... look...a squirrel

Glenn Close played his mother and is only about 4 years older than him. "Don't count the days, make the days count"

the news is the news and they do what they do...they think they're doing the right thing, but news is not entertainment,. Entertainment is creative and imaginative. News is giving facts in most open minded way...they just dont get it

As for World According to Garp, they billed it as a comedy, but nothing John Irving writes is a comedy. His books are very depressing..
