Counting Down
Counting Down I have my annual performance review going on right now. It's a bureaucratic nightmare of paperwork. I am 56, have been in this line of work since 1981 (I'm pretty sure the person writing up my review was not born until after that) and have only had stellar reviews. Yet, each year I sweat through the burden of all this paperwork. It is almost over. My last submission is due Wednesday, when we meet to make sure we are on the same wavelength on how things are going. I think that I have finally reached the point in life where I have the confidence in what I do, that I am not really worrying how the review goes. Or, is it just too late. Whatever is said doesn't alter anything. I am retiring in 3 yrs or less, and it takes 3 years for them to fire someone (unless there are extreme circumstances - and I have a flawless record). Still, I wrote my submission. I double checked it, edited it, altered it, and checked it again. Why? Because my dad instilled a work ethic in me. It has served me well! I want to reward myself with a trip to the desert southwest to see my , but will hold off. After all, I have a trip to the Alps this summer. "Don't count the days, make the days count" |

Go to the Southwest! Beautiful area, lots to see -- and you can go to Las Vegas for The Red Rooster and other fun places! Where I used to work, performance reviews were sometimes used as retaliation for union activity or other things, a very corrupt environment. I hope yours goes well!
