Irony

After pressing add for my last post, which claims that I hate the cold and snow, I thought how ironic it is that the places I want to go on vacation are: Alaska, The Alps, and a cruise to the South Pole. LOL, maybe I should rethink those. Well, not until after I come home from the Alps.

I'll be on the "Glacier Express", but of course it will be summer and not quite so snowy.

I've always wanted to visit the Alps...incredibly beautiful in photos.

Hope you're staying warm, Lady J.

Regarding going to Alaska ... there is an optimal time of year that you might not realize. It seems in june and july they have a huge amount of flying bugs. We fortunately missed that by going in late August to Anchorage, Denali, and Fairbanks with out any of them having the bugs then. But we were told how bad it can be. We did a cruise with a land component that was just terrific.

Alaska is in my future, but I need to wait until my husband's job allows him to plan a vacation that far in the future. Alaska just isn't one of those destinations you plan last minute. We want to do an itinerary similar to yours. In fact, we had it booked in 2012, but had to back out because of my husband's job. Someday!

I never heard about the bugs. I survived the everglades in summer, but will say the bugs drove me crazy. I will take your warning into consideration and plan for a late August or early September.
