Same room vs. Separate room swap

We have done both but lately we find separate room swap more interesting. First of course, the couple we need to be comfortable with. Same room can be distracting, and knees hitting noggins have happened, on the same bed. One couple suggested the following.....in a group setting, in a hotel, men put room keys into a large bowl, with wives already in their respective rooms. Men pull a room key from the bowl, and cannot pull their own key. Lights out, and some anonymity involved. Who is doing who? After all is done keys go back to a neutral room on a desk, and guys retrieve their own room key and return to their wives. Never have played this out, but it sure leaves us thinking

 Personally, if my partner and I were to try swapping, I think I'd prefer same room.

For one, I find it a turn-on to be watched.

For another, I wouldn't want to be just OK with her playing with someone else, I'd want it to be something that was exciting -- and it were exciting, I think I'd want to watch.

For now, we're not really ready to play with others, except maybe a woman who is bi and wants to play with both of us, particularly with her. But something that would be really hot would be to play together with another couple watching and getting turned on by seeing us in action. For me the thing that works is the feeling that someone watching is getting turned on by watching; just having some random person seeing us by accident and not getting a thrill wouldn't work the same way, so we're not likely to just get busy in public.
