First contact LOL

What kind of contact is preferable to you for the first meet??.Personaly I really dislike tex messages..Short and sometimes I cannot understand them at all. So, so impersonal. I prefere hearing a real person on the phone...not just a bunch of unreadable tex talk..and I don't tex back..and do not have any desire to tex anyway..so I never return tex messages..I sometimes feel like I am in the dark ages..yes the old telephone..
Text message with no name
The old fashioned telephone with message.

You are not in the dark ages, that crown can be placed on my head.
Because of my vision I don't even own a cell phone.

My personal opinion on texting is that it's a BIG waste of time. I watch people text and it seems as if it takes longer then it would to simply pick up the phone and talk. All that typing dompared to speaking??[

I don't text. It's a waist of time for me. I prefer to simply call and talk and in that way I can hear reflections in her voice and get a better understanding of how she feels.

I used to be against text messaging. Now I like it to set up a meet. Texting is the most efficient way of communicating a time and place and its all in writing in case you need to refer to it.

Phoning is too difficult as now you can't phone while driving, or even while on public transportation.

Emails.... I actually tried to use email when I first started the interwebs dating thing, and I missed dates as a result of me not having an email test device or a laptop on my way to the date.

I take the context of this question as communicating after messages sent on a site, to set up a time and place for a face to face meet. Text has won me over as more people text than email or phone.

But it looks like I'm in the minority in your poll. Maybe the demographic is different than the one I'm in? Strange...

Good questions though.

How do you initiate first contact with a stranger? Phone is out of the question because they don't know your number and you don't know theirs yet. So, for the very first contact I voted email.
Then, after a few emails, phone conversation is preferable. I can text
but really hate it.

First of course is a few e-mails, then talk on the phone.

It depends on the situation. When meeting people on the internet the first contact will always be electronic but what happens after that depends on several variables that are dynamic in nature.

Having passed prescreening at the electronic level, the first contact should always be short, in person and at a public location with lots of people like a coffee house. After that its offline for most but those with busy careers in technology related jobs are fluent with hit-n-run communications so IM is accessible where phones can't go and schedules don't match.

Using technology successfully is a testiment to ones ability to communication and stay on subject. It requires unique personal skills or a challenging schedule that inhibits needy tendancies.

Email is fine for a first contact, but to really get to know someone you need to meet them in person

I feel it should always be an email first, for safety's sake.

You never know if you're going to like someone, or if the feeling is reciprocal. And there's always the spectre of having given out your number to a lunatic or potential stalker

I never meet without speaking on the phone first, text is useful as we all have busy lives. I have to like and want to meet the people first and a conversation is the best way to determine if there is a potential match.
