SCRUMPTUOS - OH, YES !!!!!!

Went out yesterday to pick up some last minutes items for the Holidays, and while in the grocery, spotted a big nice juicy slab of BBQ ribs; wandered a bit further and at the deli stumbled onto some fresh cooked collard greens.

Boy, did I have a feast last night, got some left for tonight. Most of U northerners don't like our southern collards, am I right? U don't know what you are missing. Going to cook some crispy cornbread to go with them tonight. js

Hawaii should be a great place to grow collards, but then our theory up here in SE N C is that a frost has to fall on them this time of year before they are truly good.
But summer collards are not SO bad either.

Have a great weekend for yourself my friend. js

Oh, my friend, if you like cooked vegetable greens of any kind you would love these if cooked right - better than cabbage. Come on down south for a trip and its guaranteed you can find 'collards'.

Think I'll visit that deli again this weekend and get me another 2 quart containers and put in the freezer for later. But everybody can't cook them to perfection.
This one lady does them up right.

Have a good weekend my friend. js

Thanks honey, now save the blackeyed peas till New Years with the collards and cornbread thrown in. Can cook the collards myself, but don't like all the prep, but go up to the next town to the Piggly Wiggly and that nice lady in the deli knows just how to put the fixings on those fresh collards. Price not bad either.

Here's wishing you a wonderful Xmas and the Holidays. js

Glad you approve of my 'soul food fare'. Grew up on the farm out here on this kind of food, a few boiled white potatoes, (if left over, then fried in corn meal), and country ham or fat back cooked crispy.

Getting my good food before Xmas gets here, if put on the table, I'll never see a bite of it !!!!

Have a good weekend. js
