TOO MUCH !

Went to the church Homecoming today. Nice service, and tons of food at the dinner afterwards. My neighbors and church members there BBQ'd a pig yesterday to serve
and 5-8ft tables full of pot luck. Didn't appear much had been eaten for a long while.
I ate way too much.

About that time of year for Homecomings at churches in the South this time of the year. How about in other parts of the USA, do most of your churches observe such in the Fall?

Which sauce base do you prefer, the strong tomato based or the vinegar based
like we do in SE NC?

My brother-in-law loves this vinegar based we have here, but he is one of them thar Yankees. Surprising. Talked to him and my sister tonight and told them about the fresh cooked pork BBQ at the church Sunday. THey said their mouths were drooling. When they used to come down from Mass. they always buy their favorite, freeze it in containers, throw in a cooler and take it back with them in the summer, and by packing ice around it, it was not thawed at all after the 14 hr. trip home, they could merely toss it in their freezer for future heating in the microwave.

In fact part of my immediately family who live here in our neighborhood have invited 4-5 Marine families from the base over at Camp Lejeune to come join us for Thanksgiving, and will cook a big batch along with all the potlucks that show up. There is always enough every year to feed 'an army', so why not. We ask for those military members who are not able to travel home and would end up by themselves or have to dine out. One neighborhood about 10 miles to the North of us on at a County Club have 2-3 bus loads of Military members come join with them on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Special time to Thank them for their service.

Sounds lovely. Here, I belong to DAR and we just had a special gathering and TEA to welcome new prospective members and all the wonderful varieties of tea and all those ladies specialty finger deserts all show up.

All are special occasions. Enjoy anytime you get a chance.
