Fall in Flyover
Fall in Flyover Greetings to all the members of the Perv Nation out here in the bloglands. Happy HNW! I was driving home today and looking at fall here in flyover country which means harvest. I was struck by the fact that most of the cool people here don't live in flyover country, otherwise I'd host a football party for my dirty half dozen! (Wear your favorite college team colors or Husker red) So I'm including a picture of what it looks like outside of my little town, this is one of three piles of corn and not the biggest. So what means fall in your neck of the woods? |

Fall where I am take a while to get here. I like to see the trees turn colors, but it never gets as pretty here as in the North East. The weather does cool off but never really gets cold. And sometimes...just sometimes...I have to close my sliding door at night. Happy Friday...

Thank you for the interest! Here comes the boring part, this is a start of a pile, it will build until the corn reaches the conveyor leg at the top then the leg will be extended and another pile started. After 5 of these piles are made they are covered with white plastic, this takes about 1-2 weeks. The covered pile will be there for 1-3 months. Most elevators have between 2 and 5 piles during harvest. This is just one elevator, this happens every ten miles along all the railroad tracks in the state, millions and millions of bushels of corn which is normal for us in flyover but may be unique for someone in say...Georgia. I've seen Georgia and it's way different than my chunk of flyover. If you ever visit Nebraska go to a Cornhusker game. The stadium is the 3rd largest city in the state and its an amazing (and friendly) party. Well, I'm sure thats way more than you wanted to know, but there it is.
