Is there a problem with my IM?

It seems like when I'm on IM (I'm on IM...that's klnda neat) it doesn't want to work. I see friends I'd like to chat with and it loads just fine, but I can't seem to get the emoticons to work and no one responds. But as I'm waiting, it seems to work for gay men who want to contact me. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a setting I'm missing?

I will admit there have been a few nights recently where I fell asleep in front of it. And what really seems strange is when I wake up at some strange hour of the night, it shows four or more friends on! I don't know if once you are on, you stay on until I log off (from my point of view) or if it's just some kind of scam run by the site. Obviously I know there aren't four of you on at 3 AM (normally...).

Why did they have to go and change things that worked?

 I think it has to do with people who access the site from their phone or other mobile device. The mobile app automatically logs you on to IM, even if you arent chatting.
2022... it HAS be better, right?!

 I keep seeing friends on IM & they never respond when I start trying to chat them up. I know that can't be right because some of them are new friends that still think they have a shot at sleeping with me. And they just might at that if they'd respond!!!
