Did I hear where their reasoning was that explosives could be hidden under all that clothing? That is a though!
I think the reasons for the ban are more about keeping France a secular state. Thanks for stopping by.

The ban is part of growing ultra conservative nationalism being seen growing throughout Europe. to me it is a very concerning movement that simply limits peoples rights due to their religious beliefs and fear caused by a lack of understanding of those beliefs.
You are right but unfortunately this ultra-conservative nationalist movement is spreading well beyond Europe. I'm thinking of Modi in India and Trump in America. Thanks for stopping by.

You're right, it's all ridiculous and men are behind the ridicule. Why are men such dickheads?!

A lot of confusion with this story.
The "State Council", an instance who examine the mayors' decisions say that the burkini can't be banished, this is not constitutional.
Some populists politicians speak a lot about that, a lot of rumors before the presidential election.
An old law prohibit every clothing which mask the face on public area, like burka.
In France, tempers flare because of attacks and elections as in the united kingdom before the referendum or in the United States because of the elections . The times are not for moderation and tolerance, unfortunately.
Thanks for clarifying the burkini issue in France.
Hate crime against foreigners here has massively increased since the Brexit vote.
Unfortunately moderation and toleration are in short supply around the world at the moment.

    Bonjour Spunky
    ♥ Bisou ♥ Poton ♥ Annie ♥

    Hello Spunky
Yes France is difficult to understand when one is not French
And Occitania is difficult to understand when one is not Occitan
In Occitania religious persecution date back to dawn of times and everyone was careful that it does not start again, even restrict some freedom ostentatious
    ♥ Kiss ♥ Annie ♥

I've never fully understood French politics. I still can't understand why France has both a President and a Prime Minister; I've never fully understood May 1968, and I've never quite understood why the French love and hate America.
I hope you'll teach me about Occitania!

Not only do they look ridiculous, but there are public safety concerns with a lot of these non-conforming misfits who seem to think that they are entitled to special treatment.
I don't think a terrorist would wear a burka or a burkini so I'm not sure there are any public safety concerns. I think it's a cultural misunderstandingand even a cultural battle.
Thanks for stopping by.

I agree that they look ridiculous. One day someone is going to drown wearing it. They say Muslim women cover up to prevent Muslim men from getting lustful thoughts. I guess their faith is not strong enough to resist such temptations.
Some women choose to wear the burka and some perhaps get coerced into wearing one. It's a vexed issue; it says a lot about religion, culture and gender!
Thanks for stopping by.

The West are great with contradictions especially when it comes to do with minority cultures. Western empires was civilising but involved mass slavery. The West promotes free trade provided it's not non-Western countries freely trading with the West. The West promotes freedom and democracy but often side with dictatorships. The West wants peace but has invested in massive killing machines.
You got me started; I'm now getting off my pedestal. Sorry!

Do you think the wearing of the burkini should be banned on beaches? Well I think all women should be banned from wearing clothes on the beach...excusssse me, that was my friend speaking, he has a dirty mind and just blurts things out sometimes. I think anyone should be able to wear whatever they want to at the beach as long as it isn't a grenade belt.
Do you think the wearing of the burka should be banned in public places? No. If your country says it has religious freedom then it is wrong to limit some religions but not others.

    Oh, the contradictions.
But we know this isn't really about the attire is it?
I would support your friend's law for compulsory nudity on the beach nut not just for women!

It doesn't bother me what people wear so long as they don't pressurise me into joining them.

If someone's religion says they must dress modestly we who don't live under similar dictates should respect them.

I don't want to be forced to wear a burkini on the beach; I wouldn't want to wear a bikini either. Tolerance is in short supply at the moment!

Do you think the wearing of the burkini should be banned on beaches? No way. I thought it was pretty stupid by the government to tell that lady to take her cloths off .. I can see why they did it because of possible attack but come one. Really..
Do you think the wearing of the burka should be banned in public places? I think they have a right to wear them any where. Even our RCMP(Police Force) is now allowing women to wear them in uniform. hugssssss v
It's quite amazing that a government official is telling someone to strip outside a hospital or prison!

Do you think the wearing of the burka should be banned in public places? Only if they ban men in spandex suits
Men should never wear spandex unless in a bike race!

I couldn't care less on both counts. As long as I'm not forced to wear burka in public, I'm good.
If a country has a law that no one can cover their face for security reasons, everyone has to comply . If not natives to said country don't agree, they shouldn't stay in that country.
No one should argue existing laws and customs in a home where they're guests.
The law in France, if indeed there is one, is a little vague about burkinis and covering one's face on the beach. The burkini ban has been upheld in certain areas but has been ruled as unconstitutional in other areas.
It's a complicated issue which says a lot about culture, religion and gender.

If the woman wearing the burkini is doing it voluntarily then good for them, but if they are told to wear it by their men, then it is wrong. I know the far right Muslim sects, force woman to adhere to the strict wearing of the burka or burkini. I believe it should be the woman's choice not the male church leaders.
I think a state ban on burkinis (or burkas) is counterproductive. As you say, it's a woman's choice even if the woman chooses to comply with a man's wishes!

    No.

Do you think the wearing of the burka should be banned in public places?
No. Like you, I think people should be able to wear what they want. I don't believe the safety argument either. There are plenty of other kinds of clothing that might conceal weapons or a bomb. Why not ban all clothing, then?
I'm all for a ban on wearing clothing especially if the ban applies to other people!
