Actually... unless a person looks at his/her own profile they may not even know you "Top Fanned" them. I was surprised the other day to look and see a friend I've been chatting with for months went and top fanned me. Really, the "Benefit" (if you're a standard member) is that you are able to view the profile. And, I assume, initiate contact. That's pretty much the only "guarantee" that I'm aware of. I have 8 Fans, 7 of which were friends of various form to begin with. They get the joy of making me smile and feel loved. And I tell them how I appreciate it. Also I laugh a lot at their antics because they are all (at one time or another) trying to out-bid the others. They know they're being silly, but it's partially the male competitiveness, and partially I think they KNOW it baffles me and makes me laugh. But then, as pointed out, they are already my friends. The one guy I don't know has never flirted, hotlisted, gone to my blog or otherwise tried contacting me in any way. He was a top fan for over a month before I decided to message him. I assume he fanned me merely to check my profile because his response was a mere "hey, wanna hook up?" and that was it. Nothing noteworthy.

I got my first fan last week. He was standard and wanted to read the full profile. And it did make his email stand out when he wrote me. If it hadn't been such short notice it would have parlayed into a date.
