THe NFL....

Hi there. I'm in the middle of a big 'discusion' with my friend 'Lori' about the NFL. She HATES it!

"Its a billion dollar distraction that is in no way a justifiable use of human resources or capitol"

I disagree. There are quite a number of people who LOVE the NFL and rooting for there 'hometown' teams not to mention the fact that there's a LOT of revenue gnerated in all directions and quite a few livelihoods sustanted aside from within the 'games' themselves.

I think net/net, it's a win HOWEVER I will says this: I'm TOTALLY opposed to using public money to build stadiums/areanas. I think that's a total sham and rip-off of John Q. public!

Your thoughts?

Using 'public/government' money to build sports stadiums and arenas serve several purposes. One it generates jobs (construction) then full time jobs (support). It also helps dramatically the redevelopment of an area of the city where they are built. They also act as an anchor for further development of an area be it retail and restaurants, but also housing. Also they attract big sports teams, (again taxes) and concerts which benefits everyone, both government (taxes) and the local businesses and economy. The 'public/government' money is like seed money to get the party started. It is much better than doing nothing.

By the way, I am not against this, but I am against using government/public money to support the individual teams.
