The day the Earth tilts toward the sun

THE DAY THE EARTH TILTS TOWARD THE SUN

For this part of the world, today is about 16 and 1/2 hours long.

Also, since this is the Summer Solstice-- June 21st-- the earth on our portion of this tiny blue planet tilts back toward the sun-- and watch out for that sunburn... Ouch!

I don't know how it feels up in Anchorage, or over in Sidney, or even in Irag (probably pretty gun-smoky there--you think?).

On the Mojave Desert of Southern California, adjacent to the largest Marine Corps base in the world (in area), it's frigging hot, and will stay hot all through September and into October.

I've been here for 38 years, and M. was born on this base (her father was a Marine Corps. officer, and until his dying day hated my innards. It was a shame he never realized THAT was probably why she's always loved me so much..

I remember extreme cold too, from the time I was a boy growing up on the East Coast around Buffalo, New York.

We humans are quite delicate little creatures, and our span of being able to survive temperatures that range from extreme cold to extreme heat is pretty limited.

My sister wrote me today that it was cold and rainy in her Port Townsend,Wa., area. As I write this in the early afternoon on the desert, its 104 outside, and Palm Springs (about 60 miles to the South as the cop drones fly), is around 111.

I like the heat. How about you? Would you rather be hot, or cold?

I prefer the 65 - 80 degree range. Though I prefer 100 degrees over -20 LOL. (2 of the extremes we get here in Eastern Washington)
I hear you Sexkitten... I've lived here on the desert so long that I'm starting to like the 80 plus range the best now...

You could be a traveling sales person... I used to get religious nuts trying to get me into their clans out here, but I've never had a sales person ring the bell on my gate..

I prefer heat over cold so I am not sure why I am still in Wisconsin. I suspect that 101 in the Mojave doesn't feel the same as 101 here.
No I'm sure it doesn't.. With our normally very low--single digit humidity--temps. up to about 105 are very comfortable... One needs to protect the skin from the intense burning features of the sun, but otherwise life can go on without much disruption... Oh, one other strange thing about our summers, is the white glare of the sun. Without any clouds in the sky, the sun is a white glaring ball in the sky, and I always wear the darkest sunglasses I can buy from May through November.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

I don't like either,,but I can stay warm anywhere in the cold.
I've lived in this climate for so long now that I get cold when it gets below 80..We don't have the humidity that you have in the Carolinas, and that makes the heat feel a lot more comfortable.
