Sad day

Grandpa lost his battle with cancer yesterday.

Everyone is sad but we also knew it was coming. It was hard to watch him go from being a completely independant 91 year old man to barely being able to stay awake and being so weak he couldn't sit up, not being able to remember who we were anymore, not being able to understand what is going on.

It is horrible watching someone you love go through all that. Knowing that all you can do is be there and share the time with them before they go. Knowing that there isn't way that you can help them get better. Knowing that an a short time all you will have left is the memories of them. Knowing that there will never be new memories or moments with them.

I pray you never have to go through any of this. I pray that if you do that you can find your peace with it and that you have all the support of your friends and family.

 I am very sorry for your personal loss, from reading this it would seem you were close to your grandpa. But you do have the memories, and as time goes on as it will. Remember your grandpa with a sparkle in his eyes and an independent soul. I am betting that is what he would want if he could have hovered a bit over the bed, before he left.

I have been through what you describe with a close family member. Who knew it would be bad at the end, but made us promise to remember him for the good memories and bury the bad with him.
