The dreaded summer and my fair white skin (tanning nightmare)

With summer coming and my dread of hot weather, comes another situation. Everyone tans. Well ok not everyone, but it seems expected to have a nice, tan, in shape body. Strike 3 for me on all accounts. While I am working on the in shape part, that's going to take a long time, possibly a couple years to do it the right way. As far as the tan, I can't. I used to burn and then tan, but now I burn and go back to white. Plus I burn easy, so I tend to avoid the sun. It used to be worth it, the worse the burn the better the tan. But now it's just painful and doesn't benefit me at all. I might as well be a vampire.

Main reasons why I don't like summer - heat (50-65 degrees is my ideal temperature, after that I start getting hot then I sweat and feel like I need 10 showers a day), my white skin (makes for wearing capris/shorts and tank tops really weird looking plus the whole burn easy factor), hate how I look in a swimsuit cause I'm not a size 2 so I don't even swim anymore (no pool of my own so have to go to public pools).

Anyone else have a difficult or impossible time of tanning? How about who doesn't like summer too much?

Don't get me wrong, it's nice not to have to tote around coats and extra clothes and not having to shovel before work is awesome, plus no snow to ruin plans, but sometimes I wonder if the trade for me is worth it.

I sent an Angel to watch over you last night, it returned in a hurry. I asked why, it said "Angels can't watch porn." Thanks for fucking traumatizing my fucking Angel!

Don't bother trying to figure me out. Not even the little voices in my head understand me. It's pointless!

I would prefer weather like right now - highs in the 60's and lows in the 40's, but I am definitely a summer girl. There is nothing I enjoy so much as relaxing in my pool lounge, floating around in the water, looking at clouds in the sky or thinking about nothing at all. I don't have my own pool either. I do tan, but I am so far from being in shape that it is almost laughable. I encourage you, if you enjoy the pool, to go anyway. Don't let what someone else's opinion might be put you off of something you enjoy.

2022... it HAS be better, right?!

I personally love winter. Winter means snow, colder weather and hockey. I'm normally really warm so it is the only time I am really able to stay cool. I love playing/watching hockey so that is a major plus for winter.

Summer is great for my cycling and I do love getting out in the summer weather and getting dirty. Down side is I've got the Irish/Scottish/English heritage so I burn like an egg on a frying pan. Burnt myself in Scotland 2 years ago in just a matter of hours. Who goes to Scotland and gets sunburned I mean really...

Florida summer is brutal! Don't get me started on my dislike of the heat plus the humidity!!

I grew up in the north so it took me a while to adjust to the Florida heat. I tan pretty easily but I think the sun's effect on skin is damaging at this latitude.

I try to stay under an umbrella if I go to the beach... and I do my distance runs after the sun has gone down.

I like summer, but love cooler weather, that was the best part spring, and fall in the Midwest, where I got the worst sunburns of my life. With family from Ireland, England, Wales and the very white skin. It matters not what the SPF is I will get very pink. And then later I end up turning into a very very large walking lobster in color. So here on weekends if out in morning back in by930AM, and not out again until 4PM.

When into scaring people who tell me how light my arms I show them the white belly, as they run screaming the other direction.

Naughty and so enjoying it!!

i dont have a pool of my own either. i do have a gym membership and my gym has a pool which i use quite frequently. before joining the gym i hadnt gone swimming in YEARS. while i've been to the beach, i've always worn shorts and tshirt, never bathing suit. SO, when i started using the pool at my gym i had to get over that initial self consciousness of having to wear a bathing suit and being exposed like that. At any rate, i think my gym has a variety of ppl of different sizes who use the pool - young and old too. i agree with the first poster - i think if you really enjoy the pool, you should try and make another attempt to get over that initial fear of how you look. swimming is a great form of exercise cuz it puts less pressure on your joints. i enjoy kickboarding in the pool. great leg exercise.

i'm with you tho, i kinda dread the summer too. not so much because i have issues with tanning/burning but its the whole HEAT thing. it can end up feeling too oppressive for me. Spring and fall are my favorite types of season. Winter, makes me just want to hibernate indoors.

When I'm good, I'm great, but when I'm bad, I'm even better...

I don't like it too hot.. I like about high 60's low 70's. Anything hotter I can't breathe, anything cooler is too chilly.

Although the general public touts tan as "healthy-looking" and attractive, there are many people that prefer natural skin. I have red hair and freckles, and stay out of the sun as much as possible. Remember, a tan is actually skin damage, and every instance of burning raises your chances of skin cancer a hundred-fold.

Elevate me...

Driving all day I tan weird.

Sunscreen is a MUST! Yet I often forget.

Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

I love this weather. It's been breezy and 55-65 lately and if it could stay like this all year round I'd be so happy.

I sent an Angel to watch over you last night, it returned in a hurry. I asked why, it said "Angels can't watch porn." Thanks for fucking traumatizing my fucking Angel!

I could deal with like an inch or two of snow and if winter were like that I'd be in heaven. I love cold weather. But the ice and foot of snow and dangerous road conditions just ruin it.

I can be outside for two hours and if I have skin exposed in summer when it's hot I'll burn. Sucks so bad.

Yeah I can glob on suntan lotion and will still get some reddishness going on. Plus end up with a slight burn, which still hurts. Better than a painful can't move burn but still sucks.
