Saturday Travels
Saturday Travels I talked a friend into driving me to Lookout Pass on the ID/MT border so we could pick St. John's Wort so I can make massage oil which she's been asking for since she ran out over 6 months ago. It was nice getting out there, and since I wasn't driving the trip seemed so much shorter than usual. Massage Oil for joints and arthritis: Fill a glass jar full of St. John's Wort flowers Cover in olive oil Put the lid on tight and stick in the sunlight. Shake every morning on your way out the door to work (or on your way in) Continue until you feel like stopping. The friend that taught me begins in early summer and leaves it till the end of summer and it turns black. I've only made it once but left it a month or so until it was a deep and gorgeous ruby red color. Strain through layers of cheesecloth or a coffee filter to get all the solids out. May require a few strainings. Not sure if leaving till black makes a difference... but it kinda smells. OK: It smells exactly like St John's Wort. But I don't like the smell. lol. After strained: I take small amounts at a time, add drops of essential oil for scent (I used Lavender but you can find other combo's online). Then you can either use as-is.... or turn it into a salve. I may try salve making this year. Or something of a body butter consistency. St. John's Wort: Pics from our trip: East Crick view - taken by me West Crick view - taken by me Sunlight through trees - taken by me Pics my friend took: A painting on the wall (literally) at The Fainting Goat where we had lunch in Mullan ID. I was willing to try their trout with lime, cilantro and... something else. But they were out. So instead we shared crimini mushrooms stuffed with barley, feta, spices and a hint of lemon. And garden fresh gazpacho. Really wish I'd taken a photo of our food but it never crossed my mind until I finished the last bite. My next cooking experiment: figure out how to replicate lunch. I also went to see The Minion Movie with my family. Originally it was just going to be dad and myself, as I took him to see Despicable Me 2 and he loved it. But my sister, her husband, 3 ( plus 1 friend) and my brother all went. Haven't seen most of them in years. Odd family dynamics plus we're all busy in life. My sister bought me a birthday present. The first in 40 years. I now have a Minion (Cro-Minion). |
