Summer is Upon Us

Drought. Heat. Ugh

My neighbor said the Spokane River is so low that they actually walked across it from the Centennial Trail near Liberty Lake.

We're supposed to hit 108 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday. followed by a week of 100+ weather.

No: I still don't have an a/c. This was supposed to be "The Year" ... oops. I have other things to save money for. But Yay! DIY (or DIYODS - Do It Your Own Damn Self). Styrofoam cooler, a couple dryer vent or larger PVC pipe elbows, an old fan, and some frozen bottled water... voila! Portable Air Conditioning Of course growing up it was a frozen ice jug in front of a fan but that never seems to work as well for me as I remember it from childhood.

Then there's the "get out of town" option. My pregnant is going camping. Her boyfriend thinks staying near or in water would be the most comfortable for her. Since I was planning on camping even before hearing of the heat wave I'll be out camping with them.

Another "home" option I often use: wet down a cotton gauze dress, wring it out, put it on and sit in front of a fan. Ice cold in moments.

How do you stay cool in summer? Anybody else going camping this weekend?

I like your cotton guaze dress idea, especially if you are commando beneath. Chill, baby, chill.

My cat may be doing that. Whether she likes it or not. I'll put my winter clothes on first though just to be safe.

I have an old JC Penny window unit that keeps the place .... tolerable. I'm going to get one of those portable ones I've been seeing for next year. Won't buy it until late fall or winter. I figure the prices might be better during the off season. I had 109 on my back porch when I got home from work. No camping here .. just working ... on what ... I don't know yet.

I will try buying one in the fall too. On the other hand i have survived 40 years without a/c. Maybe stubborness will kick in. Or... maybe that's part of the problem now. Haha

So far we're having a fairly cool- and fairly wet- June. It's been muggy but I sure wouldn't care for those high temperatures you're having!
