Are you a Quitter?

Are you a Quitter?

THIS... explains why I don't use bookmarks. Own dozens, never use them.

I ain't no quitter!!

It also partially explains some nights of not enough sleep... I have stayed up till 1 or 2am to finish that book I just couldn't put down. Even though I had to be up at 5.

Oddly... the bookmarks I own typically never leave the book they were in when it was given to me. When I need to mark my spot I typically grab whatever piece of paper or fabric or anything somewhat bookmarkish that first comes to hand.

Do you enjoy reading? Do you use bookmarks, fold the pages, or just power through like a champ first page to last?

I love reading and own several bookmarks but do not use them. All were gifts. I just use a strip of paper or such as I tend to lose them but can still always quickly find the page I was on.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

I told myself last year I would actually start using my bookmarks. Even put them in an easy spot to find. But nope... still don't walk over and grab one. Store receipt from my pocket, ripped corner of a newspaper, sticky not...

I sometimes do read a book cover to cover in one sitting but often even when I read it in one afternoon/evening I have to deal with interuptions.

If you see me in the real world, come say "Hi Justskin."

I always behave. Preferably not well.

Heh heh heh... I can fully empathize with the rechristening "quitter strip," even if at times (due to tiredness or pressing concerns) a bookmark is needed... and yes, I am definitely of the "whatever's handy" school -- having to stop and find where I left my bookmark is way, way too fussy for me!

I saw that and started laughing ... out loud, seriously. Half my friend (more like 75% of them) are very avid readers.

FOLD THE PAGE!!! Bite your tongue! That's an act of vandalism akin to attacking the Pieta with a hammer!

Breath. Breathe. OK, I'm calmer now. I've been known to exercise my rather extensive vocabulary at people who use yellow highlighter in books, or otherwise deface them. But I was so much younger then. I use bookmarks. I drink Red Rose Tea, the kind that comes with a little ceramic animal figurine in each box. And the stiff paper divider between the teabags makes a perfect book mark.

I only "fold" pre folded pages.

I'm gonna have to go buy a box of tea now. Bookmarks AND a free ceramic animal figurine?

What a coincidence .... I haven't read a book in years but I just started reading one a few days ago. I have to use bookmarks or I'll forget where I was.

Oooh! What are you reading?! It's not 50 Shades of Grey, is it?

I read quite a bit and since I do much of my reading in restaurants I use the little paper tabs that they use to hold the silverware in napkins for bookmarks. Also, I often make notes in the books I'm reading.

I've been very lax at reading lately. It's taken me 4 days to read 100 pages in a book I probably read in 3 hours when I was 10. haha.

I may have mentioned it before... but I blame texting. And going to bed too late. I always read before bed.

I definitely enjoy reading, usually not more than two books going at a time not counting tech/ work books. I have the book marks around but never handy when I need one, so I use any old piece of paper. The books I read are usually thick so I don't often have the time to read all the way through in one sitting.

The only thing I dog ear are the user or programming manuals for quick reference and catalogs.

I like to read...

And, I use book marks... usually I get them on my purchases from HPB...

I have never read a book from start to finish that was more than 200 pages long in one sitting...

when I read and I enjoy the book, I get into the whole setting and try to engulf myself completely....

sometimes I find myself re-visiting pages to make sure I didn't miss something... but, it seems to me such a private experience as the story unfolds and you learn something every now and then... depending on the author...

my 2 cents worth...

It's interesting when you re-read a book and get something totally different out of it the 2nd time.

Your owned textbook is your learning tool. You mark it however it's most useful to you. Dogearing or marking up library books is a mortal sin, but I'll correct a typo in one. Cutting pictures out of a library book to put in a report is even more heinous.
