Missed the Boat
Missed the Boat I hate when I miss the boat. Read a blog post and reply then realize the person wasn't talking about what I thought was being discussed lol. Or I take a joke as totally serious, or vice versa. Somebody blogged about "Can you keep your Faith and still walk with the Devil"... and dang it, if that's not one of the things I'm passionate about! (To give proper credit: [post 3573769] by CallMeKellie) Satan as a misunderstood being. Rebel. Outcast. Proud. Betrayed. Perhaps not truly betrayed, but he felt he was. Of course not all religions believe in Satan / The Devil. And then there are those who don't follow any religious path. It's probably safe to assume they do not believe in "The Devil" if they don't believe in "God". Unless it's a generic term for the underbelly of society. I really need to sit down and write about this some day. I've been passionate about it for at least 15 years. Essentially: Satan is a scapegoat. He doesn't "make" people do anything. He just dances along, points out easier paths, hey doesn't that look like fun? and "why not? What's the harm" etc... he misguides and gives poor suggestions but he doesn't force anybody to do anything. And then the whole phenomena of movies and such and "Aah!! It's the devil! Let's run to a church for protection. Whip out the cross! Hold a bible up!! Yes... that will scare him away!" In both Christianity and Islam (I'm not studied up on Judaism but I think they don't believe in Satan. Nor do most other religions)... Satan hung out with God in Heaven prior to God creating Adam. It was God's commands in regards to mankind that caused Satan to rebel. Pride. Arrogance. Anger. Hatred. That all came later. But more than any human... Satan knows God. Knows the bible inside out, upside down, and backwards. Because he was there before it was written. And when being written. I can just picture it... an old time cowboy whipping out a cross... and Satan "AAAAAHH!! Nooo!... oh, wait... ahaha... wooooooo! do it again..." Yeah, yeah... I'm totally screwed up. I sympathize with the devil. Hell... (speaking of the devil... hahahaha)... I can't decide if to post this or not. (thanks, callmex1000 for pre-reading and giving your opinion... posting with your confidence). Original meme with misused / misspelled words has been replaced. To sum up the words on the original image: "Love is between to beings, not against the world" |

God, Satan, devils, crosses... These are all but metaphors for greater concepts.

Cool! I really like this! I love your perspective on it. It was informative too. I thought Satan was a Senator from Oklahoma. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

Re 'missing the boat' - I nearrrrrrly responded to a post when I decided to reread it (can't recall what it was that brought about that thought) and realised that, had I click the last button, I would actually have told the blogger, outright, that they were wrong. I would never do that, knowingly. There are just too many variables to any situation to tell anyone that their behavior/reaction to their 'basket of life' is wrong. ***********If you have a yen to get" Up-a-Tree," Then it's just a hop-and-a-skip to get down with Meeee !

I've always thought of the relationship between god and lucifer... I think it was probably a lot like the relationship between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck when they were writing, Good Will Hunting.. YOU KNOW, Matt Damon wrote that movie and Ben Affleck might have tossed in a good idea here n there, but when time came to take credit for a job well done.. Lucifer thought he could share in the glory... but god put his foot down and said, Hey, I wrote this script and I'm taking this Oscar. Of course, Lucifer was responsible for coming up with all of the stuff that made life interesting, but in the context of all of the beautiful sunsets and greenery that god made... God felt like he did more and took the credit. I guess you can consider this the first split from "Creative Differences".

People who believe in predestination (Calvanists, among others) are thrown by the idea of whether Satan is truly evil, or whether he is merely fulfilling his (divine?) role (spelled intentionally correctly to avoid controversy), and thereby part of God's plan. Jews have minor demons and devils -- check out pre-Christian Gnosticism for some information. But for the most part we're more concerned with the world we're in than the world to come. Life and everlasting salvation isn't part of our covenant, or reason for living righteously: We function more under the doctrine of "Don't be such a schmuck." Great post -- and a fascinating topic (religion and this site). Might be worthy of a fair amount of further exploration... Me. I'll keep my faith (or lack thereof, or however I choose to express it) and walk with Italo Marchiony. At least that way I'll get free ice cream. Hey, you have your religion, I have mine... What if a bunch of writers put together different stories about a man who passed away 100 years before they wrote their stories... Then, what if a group of religious people decided they needed 'the perfect word of God', and selected various stories and put them into a group of papyrus documentation... As religions evolved various leaders may have altered these writings to fit the needs of their times. Some, may even have changed the celebration of the birth and death of this man in order to align themselves with the beliefs of other current religions and needed a way to blend them in... I mean it could have happened that way... I'm not saying that's what happened... But, what if??? then, we have the freedom to interpret and hold sacred the things that we want to... Well, never mind!!! Have a great superbowl day!!! To leave private messages, please use my confidential mailbox at my blog: Good luck!!!

More complicated explanation of "Lucifer": The name itself is probably best translated from Latin as "bearer of light". However, the Latin is a translation of a Hebrew word that could be translated a number of ways, including "morning star". The Hebrew word appears in the Hebrew bible only once, which makes it difficult to choose the most appropriate meaning. The Greek translation of the Hebrew word means something more like "bringer of dawn". The Hebrew word refers to the king of Babylon, not Satan, but the Latin "Lucifer" appears in several other places with other meanings. As for the image with text, I find the misused word pretty grating. I'd be tempted to edit the image to correct the text before I shared it myself.

OK... I found one without writing. I'm replacing the image. Good job. That version of the picture is better quality anyway, text or no text.
