Yes, there really is a Santa Claus idahonuke2 you asked, you shall receive haha. The story of how I almost made mom believe in Santa again. My brother on my mom's side probably believed in Santa longer than any alive. I believe he was 13 and mom thinking she really should break the news to him... when I came up with a freaking awesome idea. Because... I'm full of freaking awesome ideas (hah!) Christmas time my mom always stayed up until 3 or 4 in the morning, baking cookies, wrapping gifts, getting the turkey started. She's also a lifelong insomniac and a fairly light sleeper so pulling a fast one on her has always been impossible. Still, it never hurts to try (OK: it could hurt to try but this was a nice thing, not a 'grounded for life' thing). I went Christmas shopping for the normal gifts. Then... a few extras. Which I took to my best friend, had HER wrap them in HER paper, and sign the tags "To So-and-So, From Santa" in her handwriting. Then I hid them at her home until I visited on Xmas Eve. Just in case because there's no saying when my mom might get an itch and decide to search my room for some reason. No, she wasn't *that* bad but... you never know. But she had dug through my garbage before, and read all my mail a few times. And let's not talk about psychoanalyzing my poetry. So I sneaked (OK... English language issue... really? Snuck isn't a word? Who knew) all the gifts into my bedroom on Christmas Eve and hid them, then set my alarm for 4:30am knowing my mom would likely have just fallen asleep. After my alarm went off and I was sure all was silent... I very carefully slipped down the stairs, avoiding the creaky ones, and hid Santa's gifts in the middle where nobody would see them right off, then slipped back up the stairs to bed. A few hours later when handing out gifts... Mom got this freaked out look on her face. She knew they weren't there when she went to bed at 4am, she knew all the doors were locked, and she was awake by 8am... it was also the very first year SHE did not do any "Santa" gifts. The look on her face was priceless. Unfortunately I outed myself by getting a case of the giggles. My brother did, however, continue believing in Santa for another year. And for about 10 minutes my mom believed. |
