The Watcher

Deep within her soul
resides a perfect golden scream
held in abeyance
When the time is right
her cry will set free
the Hounds of Hell
To chase the darkness
The wrongful deaths
The wars
The bloodshed
The innocence lost
She is a Watcher
Tasked to walk the Earth
in silence, observing, recording
Sometimes, she is nearly undone
Death? No.
That darkness is a familiar weight.
True acts of Love, of Courage
Braveness beyond measure
A simple kindness of strangers
These are what threaten her silence
Unexpected tremors of kindness
Love... so overpowering
And that golden scream trembles
The tears begin to flow
Uncontrolled, at the unfamiliar
pain of Beauty.
She curls into herself,
holding back the scream.
It is not time.

 I loved reading this poem out loud. What a gift you have and have given us! That it is love and kindness that threaten to overwhelm the stoic watcher, not death or war, speaks very deeply to my soul - I felt the tears well up in my reading at that point.

What is the significance of the withheld scream? When will it be time?

I enjoyed hearing it read out loud. Not quite the flow it had in my head, but I tried it... I can't read it the way it sounds in my head.

Per the poem? Armageddon perhaps. Or the Wild Hunt. (Though lets not go there... I had a nightmare once. Terrified of barking dogs for years after). When it's time for vengeance to be wreaked upon the world.

Or perhaps when she feels safe enough that loosening that golden scream won't destroy her own self. That a Trusted One is there to help hold the pieces together when she shatters as the burden is let go.
