On Being a Slut- 10th Symposium On Being a Slut....  I think most people will use the term “slut” as derogatory term as loose and unmoral man or woman having indiscriminate sexual partners. In the alternative sexual community (BDSM, Polyamorous, Gay and Bisexual) it is not used pass judgment, rather it is a term of power. I found this paragraph on Wikipedia: Its usage is taken from the book The Ethical Slut, the term has been used as an expression of choice to openly have multiple partners, and revel in that choice: "a slut is a person of any gender who has the courage to lead life according to the radical proposition that sex is nice and pleasure is good for you. A slut is a person who has taken control of their sexuality and has sex with whomever they choose, regardless of religious or social pressures or conventions to conform to a straight-laced monogamous lifestyle committed to one partner for life. I completely concur with this line of thought regarding choice. Being a slut is choice for many men and woman who label themselves. Being slutty is a way of life and it is life affirming. I know in America, many people use this word as a mean spirited way to put down man or woman who control their sexuality. They judge people who have multiple sexual partners as fallen person with no morals. Being slut means being control of their sex life. They chose who, when, and where they have sex. Sometimes the “slut” gives control to his or her master/Dominant, and they together embrace their sluttiness! Men and woman who embrace their sexuality and lascivious emotions should be the norm. I belong to the BDSM lifestyle and I embrace each person’s right to have sexual encounters in a safe and consensual manner. Consensual sex means active discussions of wants, needs, limits and boundaries. If both parties engage in consensual sex then choice is a given. My partner loves being called “Daddy’s slut” or “cum slut” it heightens her sexual experience- it arouses her! We discussed this previously and we negotiated what is right for our relationship. On being a slut for people living in alternative lifestyle, means a positive and arousing sexual experience. I allow my slut to have sex to whomever she chooses. We negotiated that it will be done in an open and honest manner. She will tell me who, what, and where she is having sex (this is more a safety thing) and then she returns to describe her sexual encounter (which turns me on!). She allows me to have sex with others also with the same rules. So both us can be as slutty as we can! Do you embrace your sluttiness? Do you find this word offensive? Why? Have you used this word in derogatory manner? I end with this quote from the book “Ethical Slut”: “So we are proud to reclaim the word "slut" as a term of approval, even endearment. I appreciate your opinion and your post. Do you embrace your sluttiness? no, I don't wish to be a slut. I am not a fan of the word. Do you find this word offensive? I do, it's long been a derogatory term and I have not evolved enough to appreciate the word in a positive way. Have you used this word in derogatory manner? No, I try not to be offensive I do not enjoy the word or wish to reclaim it.
